God forbid,it's winter.

Post  past it on Fri Nov 30, 2012 3:59 pm

Put my first lot of winter bird feeders out today, what a prospect for the next three or four months. Some people like winter, the sooner it's over the better as far as I am concerned.

Yes, I noticed it this morning Past it, when I mistakenly left the car out of the garage last night and had to defrost it before moving off. Shocked Roll on Spring, love spring just as much as simmer if not more sometimes.

Gritter

Post  Striding on Fri Nov 30, 2012 9:59 pm

If you are out driving a gritter, that should perhaps give you some hint that perhaps it might be icy or slippery on the roads. I don't know all of the details, and hope that the driver makes a full recovery, but how on earth do you manage to roll over a gritter and hit a house?

The cats have developed an aversion to going out - and are stealing cardigans and towels to sleep on.

Probably had a wee dram to help keep out the cold, expensive choice on his part, no doubt the tax payer will be funding it's repair or replacement cause the insurance won't be now. pirat

Alternatively, we might find he was called in early on shift (lack of forward planning) and had not realised he was still over the limit.

You don't get into a car if you've been drinking Johnb. I wonder how many idiots do that every morning? Rolling Eyes

Well Irishman I start early shifts in my work and more so at the weekend early in the morning like other people do. I sometimes see drivers who I suspect are still tanked up with drinking from the night before looking at the style of driving.

I am sure the police should take a look at doing some checking in a morning their arrest record would improve and get the drink drivers off the road.

Spread The Warmth – help older people this winter.

Age UK Rochdale are trying to get key messages out .. make a Winter Pledge

Winter can be an even lonelier time of year for many older people, especially for those who are ‘Home Alone.’ Not everyone has family or interested, supportive neighbours. Sad

Separately, I wonder how long RMBC and their 'services,' including adult care, are closed for over Christmas time this year ?

Winter? Well it’s a double edge thing for me and Matron. We love the sunny crisp days walking. Unfortunately the gritting service again has it’s anti pedestrian head on and not being able to see patches of ice I am loathed to venture out alone with my guide dog, Lewis. I’ve got a pair off natty grips for my shoes, like studded tyres material I’m told, but even 4 paws struggle on ice.

By the way the police at Castleton forum mentioned the number of cars driven away whilst ‘warming up or defrosting when the driver nips back inside for a cuppa. There’s a thing called ‘quitting’, I think he said, which your friendly honest insurance snake oil salesman uses to disallow your claim for stolen vehicle, aiding and abetting?

Anyway great today sunny and raining at same time!

My attitude to winter is still the same, misery!!! There have however been some benefits, the birds have discovered the goodies in the garden and they have provided me with a lot of entertainment.
The Tit family, no chuckles please, are doing well out of it as are sparrows and robins. I put the feeders on the line to stop the bully boys ie Magpies and Jays taking over the dining area. They are however persistent which I suppose is why they do so well as a species.
Pigeons are a pain in the nether region, they must have the loosest bowels in the bird world and leave evidence of their visit all over the place.
We had a sparrow hawk perch on the fence a few weeks ago, my wife was delighted untill I pointed out that it's intentions were not honourable. It was after the small birds. She now keeps an eye out for it presumably to protect its victims.
Shouln't wish my life away I know but once we get to 22 Dec the sun is on its way back up the sky. Great!!

Looking for a copy of Birds of a Lancashire Cotton Town,
