Don't be poorly !
Had to call doctor today for my poorly husband, came out and said he needed to be in hospital phoned the ward and asked for an ambulance.
Was told 4-5 hours wait so I said i would take him in my car if someone a porter could meet me a the door with a wheelchair, the reply was "no porters available"
So with severe breathing problems and 20 minutes getting him into my car I set off to the Infirmary once there I had to go to the Urgent Care Centre to put a £1 into a wheelchair, back to the car to get him in it and push him up to the ward all in all an hour had passed !
The care he received once on the ward was good Oxygen was given immediately as his sats were only 83 thankfully they have kept him in, but I dread to think what tomorrow will bring ?
What the hell have we become, why is no-one challenging anymore

How stressful for you, I can't believe that no-one could meet you and besides....why 4/5 hrs wait for someone who is struggling to breath? I hope he feels better soon.

Re: Don't be poorly !
Allan sent home on oxygen tonight no-one has spoken to me about how much he needs how long for ? the guy who came to install it was the most informative but said he wasn't allowed to tell me ?
So as far as we are aware he needs 2 litres 16 hours a day but no-one has told us from the ward it was word to mouth from a doctor to Allan but nothing in writing ?
So is it a guessing game ?

just about had enough I have a bit of knowledge but not enough to know how much he needs and it is very different when it's in your own home !
Allan kept ringing me to say they wanted his bed but I couldn't do anything until the Oxygen arrived at 3.30pm he came home at 5.30 he shouldn't have been made to feel like that and I should have had some consultation about his oxygen how much / how long he needs to be on it ?
Just diabolical and disgraceful

Re: Don't be poorly !
Its shocking how they have to pester ill people to get out of their bed because its needed for someone else, I know it might be a good thing to get people home quickly but for goodness sake, lets get them well before we throw them out of hospital and make sure that those who are continuing the care know exactly what is required of them!
Its a good job you've got that hospital background Jeanie, at least you have some idea of what is needed.

Sad and bad situation. No way to treat people, though I think the staff are under terrible pressure.

Very well said, it's all very wrong and sad. Pressure on staff, patients and their families, so wrong.

The care gap between hospital and home remains a problem. I guess your GP is now responsible for Allans' medication. Put a note to the GP saying you do not have instructions re oxygen. If that's in writing he/she should get it sorted quick.

Sadly this is a sample of what we have to expect in the future.
We must continue to fight these "improvements", sadly this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Not necessarily so.
When my husband was discharged from hospital earlier this year with complications following surgery the hospital said he was the GPs responsibility, the GP said he was the hospital's responsibility & the district nurses said he was my responsibility. A complete farce!
I think we need a Hospital Watch as well as a Council Watch at Rochdale Online.

Yes, Spartacus, the 'care gap' between hospital and home. Despite all the administrative staff, this remains a confused area, when it's so important there should be a clear cut handover of responsibility, and why I "guess" the GP is now responsible for care now the patient is back home.
M.P. Anne Clwyd has some things to say on this subject.

Re: Don't be poorly !
In recent weeks I have nothing but praise for the staff at the Walk In Care centre at Rochdale. Though when I was told I may have to go to the Oldham Royal for surgery my heart sank after what happened to myself and my wife last year. But at least I was treated in Rochdale in the end but I dreaded going back to Oldham Royal. I never use to feel like that about any hospital.
I just hope after all the complaints I made last year to the Royal Oldham and we did get an apology I just hope they did learn from it. Though I still have fear of ever going back to Oldham to be treated for any illness at Oldham Royal.
I did not sue them but if I went back there again and went through the same thing I have no choice but to sue them if I was well enough to do it. God help those who do not have a voice to complain!

Re: Don't be poorly !
We are just going backwards, no real aftercare after an operation, buses instead of ambulances for patient transfers and now this. You're right Jeanie, we can't afford to get poorly!
