Are the British public being fed a diet of real beefburgers?
Rolling Eyes No, most of it is pork pies and fake statistics.

A top chef says shoppers are "naïve’ if they believe cheap supermarket burgers are ‘full of prime beef".

Probably true, how many people do believe such things? And how many other things do we naively believe? Not much of advertising, or anything else really, not the conflicting statistics politicians keep presenting us with. We seem to be a misinformation society. Was it always so?

Do you really want to know how so-called 'beefburgers' are made and what they mainly consist of? I doubt it.
It's a very cheap type of protein and fillers which when added to 'flavourings' are palatable - but only just. It suits the pocket of those who would want a quickie filler (because hey - we wouldn't want to spend too much time cooking now would we) and keeps the obese kids well and truly happy. They were supposed to be an in-between filler to supplement the main meals of the day - remember Wimpey - but have somehow gained the prominence of main meal status. How sad is that. Sad

It's convenient and expedient to believe what most people believe. Advertising persuades busy people that certain things are true, the packet or the label becomes the reality people believe, accept, and buy into. What's inside the packet is another matter. Rochdale is a fashionable town, something of a hidden gem, now becoming increasingly well known for it's quality of lifestyle.

Shared illusions are the currency of society, culture, politics and economics. Why children bully each other about labels on their clothes, why China exports huge amounts of counterfeit goods. Manipulating shared illusions is the everyday business of politics and industry, and a reason why control of the media is so powerful. Rochdale is a fashionable town, something of a hidden gem, now becoming increasingly well known for it's quality of lifestyle.

Image is important, the horseburger story shows how little interest there is in the reality, compared to what it says on the label. Rochdale is a fashionable town, something of a hidden gem, now becoming increasingly well known for it's quality of lifestyle.

If people believe something is good and fashionable, they will buy it and invest in it. If something has a bad name, they will avoid it. Image is critical for success or failure. Lies, repeated often enough become accepted as truth. Rochdale is a fashionable town, something of a hidden gem, now becoming increasingly well known for it's quality of lifestyle.

Rochdale has always been fashionable, a hidden gem and always been known for its quality of lifestyle and as the all automated pilot of the fully automated airplane once said - " You are seated in a fully automated state of the art airframe complete with auto mechanisation for all services supplied by the the most up to date technologies available on the planet. The onboard consul available on every automated glide down table in front of you will, simply by touching the screen, avail you of your every need and comfort. May we wish you, from the comfort of our ground station here in the Caymen Islands, a very pleasent and restfull jou r n e -y. Misinformation is so ubiquitous, we either don't think about it, or have become hardened to it, or a combination of the two. This disconnect from the truth forms our understanding of what goes on.

The hostage situation in Algeria has brought the difficulty of finding out the facts into the news. Commentators tell us the Algerian government is always secretive, wars with Islamic militants have been going on there for decades, characterised by secrecy and misinformation. 'Dirty' wars that have killed many thousands. the situation throughout countries of north africa seems to be similar.

The main motive of the wars seems to be anti-western Islamic forces, some displaced from Afghanistan, a huge collection now well armed, well organised. The agenda seems to be to establish an Islamic nation in northern africa at a time when Europe is perceived to be weak, to attack the oil and gas that flows into europe and generally threaten europe across the mediterranean.

Don't panic. If europe is looking at a large scale war zone on it's doorstep, what is the war about? Is it about who is right and who is wrong? Competing world views? If so, europe can hardly claim to have a monopoly on, or even a working relationship with, what is true. Can anyone? Is it just a matter of who has the best weapons systems?

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/africaandindianocean/algeria/9814042/Algeria-we-face-decades-of-terrorism-struggle-says-David-Cameron.html

The 'west' lost moral credibility with the use of torture in 'the war against terror' very early on, and it's reported to be on the increase again as afghanistan is handed back to the afghans.

The post by Cyfrifia represents the most blatant and mind-numbing contribution to thread-drift I have ever seen in 7 years as a Moderator!

What, in God's name sort of mushrooms are you on????

The recent goings on in Algeria are well worth a dedicated thread so why you have to mix it in with a thread about contaminated beefburgers I am at a loss to understand.

No wonder that posters complain about threads getting overly-politicised.

I thought Albert would have been more attracted to the thread if it had been about wild dog attacks in every conceivable part of Britain together with two or three-thousand word news reports from the Scunthorpe Guardian and the Padstow Gazette?

Mind you, he has used the Daily Torygraph and Reuters to cross-reference his post so I suppose it could be!

cyfrifia may be a new and improved Albert. Smile The thread drift is remarkable, but there are vague connections. We are told lies about pies, and everything else really. It's been so quiet on here, I just chuntered on to myself a bit. Does anyone else remember this old song by Wayne Fontana and the Mindbenders? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Ip9TqIqkFg

I remember Wayne Fontana himself, he used to be a resident act at the Oasis club in Manchester where I used to spend weekends as a teenager (wow, that was a long time ago!)

Interesting chap, Wayne Fontana, according to wikipedia that knows everything, "In 2005 he fought off bankruptcy but was arrested after police were called by bailiffs who went to his home in Glossop, Derbyshire. He poured petrol on the bonnet of a baliff's car and set it alight with the bailiff still inside. Fontana was remanded in custody on 25 May 2007. He later appeared at Derby Crown Court dressed as Lady Justice, complete with a sword, scales, crown, cape and dark glasses, and claiming "justice is blind"" Cool

Eh Up Charly did you used to get a 'pass out' and go across to the Nags Head? i remember the bouncers used to stamp my shirt sleeve cuff with a date stamp instead of my skin. had a pint in there with the Moody Blues when it got raided by the police never seen so many Mods move so quickly, i just drank me pint and carried on talking to the Moody's. also used to go to the Frau, the yung un, and buy pass outs from the bouncers in the Crown and Anchor. Matron used to work at the Jigsaw and New Century Hall, met all the Motown stars and the babyfaced Roy Woods and Herman of the Hermits. them were the days and we never tried the drugs thing, we were high on life and music. i remember the Beatles at the Oasis, before my time but my brother queued right into Albert square to get in. how's that for topic shift. nice to hear Wayne again.

The only time i got a pass out was to go round the corner to the Twisted Wheel, didnt care very much for it in there though, some guy offered me a funny looking ciggie Rolling Eyes I didnt take it, never saw the need.
The Oasis was soft drinks only when I used to go, I dont know if they ever sold alcohol or not.
I think the pub we used to go in sometimes was called the Rising Sun.
I saw quite a few soon-to-be-famous groups there, Gerry and the Pacemakers, Marty Wilde, The Karl Denver Trio I can remember off the top of my head, there was also a few one hit wonders but remembering names 50 years on is a bit more difficult.

I could name you a few dozen more Charly. And some that were superior musicians but never had the luck. Google - manchesterbeat -- where you will find a comprehensive listing - if you look hard enough you will also find me on there. Smile Smile

yes the 'Wheel' famous for big fags. the Rising Sun was the one with a door at each end like the Nags Head, it is still there but a chrome and high table joint now, no real ale. i was around the clubs, all soft drinks, 1965/6 then off to Cheetham Hill bowling ally where i met Matron in 1967, pubs and girls took over from music, i'm glad to say. i remember The Yardbirds, Undertakers and Stevi Wonder at the Oasis as well as the ones you mention. i also went to the Top Ten club on Sundays at Belle Vue hosted by a bloke in a posh suit called Jimmy Saville, even then girls were told 'don't find yourself alone with that man'.
