I think this is a good idea. The overall vision I mean not just the drilling! I will be interested to watch the progress and especially to see the medieval bridge.

I shall be watching this with great interest.

Love watching things being built. This project will be superb. A step in the right direction for once.

Very Happy cheers

I love watching things being built. Been an avid follower of the Metrolink being built even had a birds eye view of the Newhey stop.

One presumes the drilling etc is based upon a feasibility study for the 'potential' re-opening of the river and its bridges? Have any plans or schemes been submitted for planning and council approval? If not one must hope that the feasibility proves sound and within reasonable expenditures for a scheme of this kind. It will be interesting to see the outcome of the bores and the final costings for a 'scheme' for submission. A planning application by the council should be available for viewing and suggestions by the general public as such as this will be a considerable expense and once completed something that will be on view for many decades to come. The people should have an input and cognisance taken by the planners for any new innovative ideas and suggestions as to the final plans both for the finished product and for future access for business and leisure activities. This could potentially be a turning point over the next few years for Rochdale to put itself back on the map as an interesting and worthwhile place to be and visit. The tourism unit (if you have one) should be in at the start of any project of this sort. Sounds good so far to me. Very Happy

I have already seen that J. Those were plans for re-opening the three sections and assessing viability with a proposed view to exposing, re-building as required together with possible amenities etc. They can't possibly have decided upon a a 'final' plan with proper costings until viability has been established along with amenities etc etc for the finished project - that would be ridiculous! An estimated costing of £3.5 million may well have been furnished as a guideline. No self-respecting planning would put forward a scheme without proper surveys, assessments and costing in detail. It is to these I allude. Smile
