Choosing the right word is all the rage at the moment. However, 'attended' seems an odd choice, sounds like these chaps were attentively performing a solemn duty.

It's not considered good English to say 'went to' or 'presented themselves'. Don't know why really? Wink

Seems strange they live so far away too. Wonder why the councillor was not named?

Well, they're not going to tell us who it is in case there was a reason for the blackmail threats, skeletons in closets and all that stuff.
Certain councillors cant afford any more adverse publicity
Maybe some Rochdale councillors have links with the Birmingham/West Midlands area

As they have not named the councillor or given any indication as to the area he/she lives in, the request for the public to come forward with information is a complete joke.

Fairly typical of the attitude of the police these days. Ticking the community-involvement box whilst more or less ensuring that they are given no useful information whatsoever.

What?!!

How the heck can that be? Either the events took place or they did not.

If a "misunderstanding" how did it come about that police issued the story in the first place?

Who was the Councillor? If not being blackmailed and subject to a court case no reason to protect his/her identity.

Rochdale councillor blackmail: Two charged

Two men have been charged with blackmailing a Rochdale councillor.
The men are alleged to have gone to the councillor's home on 4 March, made death threats and demanded a large amount of money.
Zaheer Ahmid, 33, of Church Street, Dudley in the West Midlands and Murza Zia Sadiq, 32, of Willowbank Avenue, Staines in Surrey, have each been charged with one count of blackmail.
Both men are due to appear at Bury Magistrates' Court later.
