Who picked that particular store...and why?
As the article states, a lot of places have these stores on the outskirts of town and not easily accessible on foot or public transport.

Asda welfare cards: a step too far? Empty Re: Asda welfare cards: a step too far?

God knows I don't want to start knocking people who are on benefits. They have it hard enough for the most part but...

I have mentioned before this 'friend of a friend's who lives in. 5 bedroomed rented property with her TEN kids. No partner, never had a job and has spent her entire life on benefits.

Yesterday, she took delivery of a Panasonic 50" 3D TV and home cinema system costing well over a grand. The mind boggles. In debt up to her eyeballs, all the kids have taxis to school and she gets through a bottle and a half of vodka a day.

People like these confirm the darkest suspicions of the Daily Mail reader.

Not her fault Hinch. She is only taking advantage of the system as best suits her purposes. Change the system if you want less abuse. Simples. Rolling Eyes

A lot of our money goes to support wonga.com who trebled their profits last year.

Why would anyone borrow money at those obscene rates of interest and then worry about paying it back if things didn't pan out???? What do they think the little 'wonga' scrotes are going to do about it???? Send the 'wonga gang' in???? It's a 'game of numbers'. Providing sufficient borrowers are intimidated enough to make the repayments and the obscene interest rates the game goes on. If sufficient borrowers told them to go 'fly a kite' - they would fold within months. The whole things a bloody con and should be treated as such. Screw them - as much as possible I say.

It seems quite reasonable to partner a major distributor.

I suspect there would have been a greater outcry if Tesco had been used, and they have more high street branches.

From the article it would seem Asda were the only supermarket who were interested in partnering the council with the scheme.

Re Wonga & Con. The fact that people get involved with them in the first place indicates that either they have no idea what they are getting involved in or they are too desperate for it to make any difference.
