We would never be allowed to prejudice a protected species like that, but indeed, incredible photographs.

Beautiful, and my favourite bird! I live in a so called 'deprived' area of Rochdale, Belfield...but in the last 12 months I have seen this beautiful bird, deer and, only last week, a grouse/partridge? whatever....all on the canal at Belfield. I don't feel deprived at all!

Which is a result of de-industrialisation, smoke controls, planning laws, environmental legislation and amenity improvements - which previously my generation (as kids) had to live amongst. But hey - we survived (most of us). So perhaps that which is taken for granted and 'still' moaned about by the new generations who seem to think we have mass deprivation and poverty as never before might take a step back and realise it was my generation that lead the fight and succeeded in changing it all and stop scorning us for being old and appreciate, for once, just what they do have. I know it still isn't perfect - but it's a million times better than it was. They really do have a glass half full if they would but realise it. And there is nothing stopping them making it even better.

The photos are as good as they should be given the access licenses that will have been given.
Now if a mere mortal had taken them, that is a different issue, but these should be judged against the standards and expectations of professional wildlife photography.

Can't see anywhere in your post you referred to the photos, Ray, rather you seem to have given us yet another lecture about "your generation" - best start rolling in the dog turds.Atlas wrote:Which is a result of de-industrialisation, smoke controls, planning laws, environmental legislation and amenity improvements - which previously my generation (as kids) had to live amongst. I don't think I was straying too far 'off piste' to mention the fact you can now see wildlife in the 'raw' in Rochdale due to the 'clean-up' of the past fifty years. Or to mention the fact that you 'now' have that opportunity and should take full advantage - glass half-full chaps????????
I admire the photography - if I didn't she who has her degrees and is insisting on a photographic tour of South Africa in November would have much to say on the subject - er - you don't think it is psychosomatic does you!!! Dog turds? Here doggie doggie -!
