Germany's recent actions towards the dumping of their nuclear energy programme has just cost each and every one of us in Europe (including themselves - which no doubt they can afford better than most) a 5% hike in our energy bills. Should other countries follow suit the hike will increase graphically in the same upward manner. Perhaps our anti-nuclear fellow travellers on here thinks it's worth it - or are you just kidding yourselves for the sake of saving face. How's your wallet doing.

Im just waiting for the next 'todays is the last day to do anything' proclamation from the usual suspects for their response on this.

They will probably say it wil be worth it etc to save the planet. But bearing in mind we have an ageing power station collection (one plant shut down recently because of age ) do we have enough capacity for generation. Or will we be subject to lurid headlines such as the other week where various media quoted we only had a few days of storage and there was a strong chance of blackouts etc. I am a bit concerned that there will be blackouts in the future. So what to do?

More windfarms? But can we ever be totally reliant on turbines and wave generation machines? Yes they may help provide some of the shortfal. But lets be honest we do need more than a smattering of windfarms.

I think fracking is a very good idea - and so to does the wife. However - - -


I'm waiting to see if Colorado and parts of California drop off the globe before I go any further with
promoting such an operation. I 'doubt' the scientists have it 'wrong' but we are dealing with the earths crust yet again and although I like crusts I have heard rumours that they can sometimes get very stroppy.

Why USA States? Theres been issues with the Fracking in the UK. Only recently it has been restarted after some tremours were linked to Fracking sites.

Rightly or wrongly I think its good that we are looking at all sources of new energy rather than the usual suspects of giant windmills and solar. In an ideal world we could have some Gas Power Stations, Nuclear Stations all with green energy supplementing or filling the gaps.

Specifically because the 'fracking' operations in the States are on a much larger scale than the Fylde and have been in operation far longer. The problem I have is geological stratas? Are they similar to those now being 'pumped' in the States. Does topography and geographical mix have a bearing on the end results? In other words are we dealing like with like. Could replacing gas with liquid have a cause and effect not hitherto known? I don't know. I'm not offay with that sort of science. I would have to 'take' the word of others - and being my age and somewhat skeptical through previous experiences - I'm a long way from being a happy bunny over this one.
