Horrible, noisy, intrusive machines.
As to being brave or mad, in the case of one I read about 4-5 years ago, a third possibility occurs ; stupid. He was in the Mersey and decided to zoom up the middle of the big, twin-hulled Seacat ferry. Luckily for him, he didn't get churned up in the turbines but the idiot did suffer broken arms and legs when he ran smack into a channel marker as he came out of the other end.
Serves him right.
Great action pics though.

It's a bit hard to say 'serves him right', although it is tempting. People who ride jet skis should know better, they are destructive, stupid, egotistical nutcases, so the answer is 'mad'.

Get into Extreme Sports, take stupid risks ignoring training and commonsense and come a cropper. In my book you get what you deserve.
Those turbine-driven HSS ferries are not to be trifled with.
Akin to driving the wrong way up the M62 in a fibre glass bubble car and aiming it in the path of a 42 ton juggernaut.
Stupid is an appropriate enough term I think.
