A Froggie would a-wooing -.

Post  Atlas on Thu May 30, 2013 1:16 am

And he did ride. Hey hey.

Had a visit from our illustrious 'Have wi-fi will travel' intrepid leader of the Dale Voice Choir - the 'Hinch' here in Wales today. I have to report he was looking well and didn't disappoint. Black coffee and clankity-clank seemed to be his forte as he mercilessly cast his critical eye (just the one) across the bountiful treasures of West Wales which were laid before him. Doubtless he will (even as I write) be putting heavily alcohol ed fumes rapidly into his dictaphone (for perusal later) as he reiterates for the masses everything he witnessed during his short stay. I cannot report as to his whereabouts thereafter (although he did mumble something about 'that bastard Beeching chappie' as he left) only to report he was heading north at the time. We all here in Wales wish him well in his crusading zeal -. affraid Wink Wink Wink Very Happy

I sent him a text earlier asking if had felt the earth move in the early hours, he replied he was sound asleep due to some medicinal sleeping draught he had taken. Laughing

Well he was certainly heading for that direction when he left here. At 4.5 (or whatever) I doubt he would have even felt a gentle ripple through his paddings. A ground shudder is unlikely to faze the 'HINCH'. Probably thought it was the back-draught from one of his potential targets - of which I know there are many. Wink Wink

Just back. A beautiful 4-5 day break. Very impressed with Ray's set up and with my ride on the 119 year old Alan George; an old 0-4-0 Hunslet quarry engine from Leeds.

The engine Ray was driving was some sort of lawn mower but the kids seemed to enjoy it.

Will write more later. Saw a herd of American bison and millions of bluebells and stunning sunsets. Went to loads of bits of Wales I've never seen before. Tried some excellent beer. Only downside, I managed to puncture my brand new blow up mattress. Ooo.... err... Missus!

A fab break. Batteries well and truly recharged.

Hinch is correct with the 'lawn mower', a small 7 and 1 quarter inch miniature railway I built in the 1990s which of course doesn't faze the younger end who think it's the bees-knees. Will extend it another quarter mile next year. It is the only miniature I know that does a 1 in 100 hillside - (unless of course you know different).
What Hinch didn't see (but may report on later) was the ancillary attractions and the new £500,000 facilities that are being introduced over the next two years. For those interested in the future of many of this country's 'heritage' railways they could do worse than keep an eye on what is happening here and what many others will have to do to survive the future. Nothing stands still. Go with the flow - or die. Very Happy Wink affraid
