Hinch - Pub Landlord? Empty Hinch - Pub Landlord?

Well, have always wanted to own if not run a good real ale pub so have just bought some shares in the fabulous Fox and Goose in Hebden Bridge which aims to be a community-owned boozer.

It is a fantastic venue with live music, beer festivals, no keg or lager and no muzak blaring at you. Great beer garden.

We go there quite often so am, looking forward to a few shareholders' privileges. Hic!

Hats will be allowed but no hoodies, baseball caps worn back to front, Crocs, trainers or white socks.

Looks like a great idea. Let's hope it works out. I've never been myself, will have to give it a try. I have to say that I like a decent lager in the summer though.

No trainers, No trainers ! What is wrong with casual trainers then  Razz  ?

Is this a new shareholder's house rule,  or some self-styled community Leader's fetish against 'sneakers' Suspect

Dogs, dogs and even more dogs are apparently more than welcome at this hostelry .. along with walkers.    The mind boggles .. will there be dog socks to prevent floor soiling and shoe racks for walkers boots to preceed their relaxation in socks, or barefooted.              Who are the Directors ?            A thriving pub needs cold-weather, winter custom, so that's my knitted balaclava and ear-flapped bob caps snookered as well, hey?

Hinch  Trainers are for playing sport, jogging etc NOT for going to the boozer MJH.

You do have a point re the horrible, yappy canines that take over the place from time to time. Hard to impose a total ban as Hebbie is the epicentre of 'Two Dykes and a Dog' country. The short-haired, flat shoe-wearing, facial piercing aficionados would be up in arms at any outright ban!

We were in there last year and had the misfortune to run into a well-dressed dog competition. I was not a happy Hinch and sat there muttering curses and entertaining dark thoughts involving singed fur and flamethrowers.

Why the hell do some dog-owners just fail to understand that the rest of the world's idea of a fun time doesn't necessarily involve being enthralled by the tedious antics of their precocious pooches?

Small, yappy dogs do nothing to improve my curmudgeonly disposition.

I used to love Hebden Bridge as I am a bit of a new age baby at times. It used to be stop off place for crystals etc, but I was appalled on my last visit, no one told me the yuppies had landed, coffee shops, deli's and Bistro's whatever next :S

Don't have a small yappy dog Hinch, but how would a totally soft (and relatively small for breed) staffie do you?  Hmm....possibly not! Laughing

Hebbie has always been an upmarket sort of place Voddie, as has Glastonbury. Both have learned that there is hard money to be made from New Age sympathisers or former hippies seeking to salve their consciences by having a few crystals or an overpriced pack of tarot cards in a drawer somewhere.

The house prices are the best indicator of the real throbbing heart of Hebbie. Well salaried social workers and others of that ilk can't get enough of the place.

Living high on the hog in a place that still just about allows you to believe that you are out of the rat race blinds you to the fact that this is a veneer.

A great place to buy a tie-dyed tee shirt then go for a prawn sandwich on craft-baked wholemeal ciabatta with a £3 skinny latte as you live the modern, well-salaried version of the New Age dream.

Still, for all my cynicism, it is still a great place full of real characters. A great place for writers,  artists and musicians to hang out and if you are gay, nobody turns a hair.

pale    and when it comes to the Dark Side, distinct flavours of ' Shamonism appear ' ... at the drop of a hat, or two ....

There is a fab, cheap Greek restaurant there that let's you bring your own wine. Very good. Also a great comic shop.

Remember the Nuttie (Nutclough) really well. Great beer and dogs in moderation as long as they were well controlled.

Best venue for food and real ale at the moment is the Stubbin Wharf. Great canal-side venue with a top class menu. We were there last weekend. One of our favourite haunts. Booking a table as 'Doctor Hinch' rather than plain old Mr usually gets us the best spot in the house. I learned the trick a few years ago when I noticed that we always got a better table when my best mate, a real doctor did the booking.

I love Hebden Bridge and does have a good collection of pubs and places to eat. I just hope it can ride out the economic climate and keep its identity. Though not easy for anyone at the moment.

Good collection of various shops.
