Starved to Death.
Anyone seen in the news today about an 88 year old lady who was allowed to starve to death in a care home in Rochdale. Another scandal yet again from Rochdale. What is the problem with the care services who let this happen. A Coroner has demanded that the Police should look at this again. If this is not a case for the police to investigate such a scandal and for all concerned to take action against those concerned, what is? Why was she allowed to slip the net?
I read the story a number of times today and find it impossible to see how this could have happened.

Re: Starved to Death.
TP2: There's different emphasis on this sad report applied by various news reports today. One lead with ' Coroner demands answers from NHS and Police.'
Rochdale Coroner said Irene Willits, 88, died of malnutrition, which was “extremely rare” but it was probably caused by “naturally occurring disease”.
This elderly lady died in September 2009 and, while it's not the focal point of your own opinions, I'm amazed that a Coroner's Inquest is reporting from a hearing held almost four years after her death ! ?

I've heard of this before whereby the digestive system breaks down and cannot utilise the food contents. Intravenous doesn't compensate and the organs collapse. It's possible any neglect (if there was any) might have come from the process not having been spotted in time for the lady of that age to succumb to nature.
I would agree that four years 'later' seems a bit over the top. More information is needed to make any further comment. Very sad.
