I see John Saxby, CEO of Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust hasdecided to retire. I wonder what his pension is?

A lot I would imagine !
But I do wish Him well my argument was never with Him it was the system and certain managers who took advantage of their positions;)

A figure with lots of zeros in it.

Jeanie, you are being very kind to him IMHO. Refresh my memory, but at the Review and Scrutiny committee (can't quite remember its proper name) I seem to remember thinking Mr Saxby telling lies about the A&E department not being closed at the Infirmary, in fact you were Chairperson.
It was in fact closed a couple of weeks later, so it must have been discussed and scheduled.

To me this is just another obscene example of people milking the system - who loses by this ? Us, the poor patients!

Strong words Keith. What exactly do you mean by lies? Did he say something that could be viewed differently depending on your viewpoint, or just say something that was an untruth?

My memory, going back to a meeting 15-06-10, is not 100%, looking back it was Mr Saxby's representative, Mr T Wilding who said and I quote from the RMBC minutes of this meeting;

UPDATE ON PROPOSALS TO CLOSE ROCHDALE INFIRMARY ACCIDENT & EMERGENCY IN THE EVENINGS.

6 Tom Wilders informed the Committee that no formal consideration had been given to close the Accident and Emergency Unit at Rochdale Infirmary in the evenings and that if any proposals were to come forward these would be brought to the Committee for consideration.
DECIDED – That the report be noted.

By some reckonings, as Mr T Wilding works under Mr Saxby and was sent by Mr Saxby to represent the Trust, Mr Saxby as CEO is ultimately responsible for Mr T Wilding's statement.

At the next meeting, 20-07-10, attended by Mr Saxby, we suddenly find without the promised consideration we have:

On the grounds of patient safety Pennine Acute Hospitals Trust supported by NHS – Heywood, Middleton & Rochdale had taken the decision to divert blue light emergency ambulances away from Rochdale’s Accident & Emergency Department between the hours of 6.00 pm and 8.00 am.
Patients will be transported to the next nearest hospital, either Fairfield General Hospital or the Royal Oldham Hospital. The Committee was informed that this was a temporary emergency closure and will be
kept under ongoing review in the light of the staffing situation at the Infirmary. The arrangement will come into force on Monday, 2 August 2010.

Now I fail to see how a plan to start closing A&E could be formulated and acted upon in such a short time, it must have been decided and planned, so my conclusion was that somebody was telling pork pies!

And as we all now know, although promised as temporary, this was in fact the start of the total closure of Rochdale's A&E - a well planned and executed manoeuvre, for which Mr Saxby has to take responsibility.
