Compulsory beards?

Post  cyfrifia on Fri Oct 04, 2013 11:33 am

Bit of a beard row going on at a school in Accrington.

Will there be a definite answer to this compulsory beards idea? It may seem a trivial matter, but for many people, the hair that grows on various parts of the body and what they do about or with it is very important.

Not sure how they are a religious thing, as many muslims don't have beards, but also not sure how a beard can form part of a uniform or not. Surely as long as they are tidy, then they shoudn't be a problem.
I'd have though that if they want to look more like Mohammed, though, they should wear 7th century clothes and ride a horse around. Religion eh?!    Takes over the brain if you're not careful.

Neither growing a beard is mandatory in Islam nor is shaving forbidden /haram.

Schools are for education and learning. Mosques and churches for religion. All have their own to rules to which all who subscribe should adhere to. If you don't like the rules don't join the club. End of.

Most people don't join, but are born and brought up within belief systems, accepting them as the norm, and generally, for social and economic reasons, have to conform and fit in.

And therein lies the abuse and the 'rub'. It still leaves and begs the question - what happened to intelligence and free-will. Why stay in the kitchen if you don't like the heat?Sad

In a general sense, neither are as popular as they used to be. With our anti-education culture in the UK, they tend not to be fashionable. Young intelligent people may be labelled 'geeks'. With the demands of modern life, education has moved away from developing thinking, more towards training.

Free will is an elusive idea, the freedom to do what you want being seen, to an extent, as economic. Youngsters may be attracted to the idea of 'celebrity' to make a fortune quick, but even if they do, celebrities are now churned out on a production line, starting with dentistry and ending with twerking.

On the beard theme, Islam values intelligence applied 'correctly', but the idea of 'free will' is rather foreign to it.

Then that is not democratic. These people live in a democracy where the law allows them a modicum of free-will not to be impinged by religious dogma. I would suggest they re-educate themselves on the rights and freedoms available to themselves and 'then' decide on a personal basis the way they wish to live. Rolling Eyes

Are beard issues coming in vogue here as a male gender issue in Islam, to at least parallel the veil debates?

Differing 'beard' belief interpretations have caused serious 'situations' between Muslims overseas; read/see: -

To beard, or not to beard? That is NOT the question,

This is Britain and need to publically empower all versions of religions seems, as a minimum, nonsensical, impractical and acutely divisive. Exclamation

Under Islamic custom, the person with the biggest beard has right of way, but this arrangement is under threat in western consumer society due to the availability of beard volumising and stiffening products.

One Muslim pupil allowed back into school.....beard and all, because the 'European Convention of Human Rights' rules that schools must make reasonable adjustments on religious grounds so it's specifically because this child has started the 'HAFIZ' program at his local mosque.

Bye bye England AND Christianity..... hello Islam, yet another back down.....I can't wait to post my vote to get the hell out of the EU!! What chance would WE have in the realms of 'HUMAN RIGHTS' to stamp our faith signs all over Muslim countries ?....not a cat in hell's chance!!
