It is time All supermarkets put proper security staff in their stores and stopped relying on the staff to do it for them !

I don't think Rochdale Tesco is lacking security

Issue seems to be avoiding and neutralising antisocial elements.

It is actually John B as most supermarkets are. If you don't believe me then please go in and ask for yourself I think you will be quite amazed by the outcome ?

A great many retail outlets suffer from 'local idiots'. There is nothing new in that at all. To have to hire special security personell to combat what 'might happen' is ludicrous. Tesco's may be 'big' but special security would add yet again to your shopping bills - something I suspect Jeanie you would be the first to kick against. Members of staff do not have to get involved other than from a personaly affronted/angry stance on their own part. It is up to the owners of any establishment to protect their own property and goods as they see fit. I applaud the man for being angry at these scrotes but any action he takes must be at his own risk. From the report it would seem one of the scrotes (with back-up) took offence at the member of staffs actions and returned to wreak revenge - that is a criminal offence and quite rightly the police should have been called, heart attack or not. Let's hope that the police take the appropriate action from here on in and the court does likewise. They are lucky the charges are not manslaughter for such would have been the case had the man have died. As it is he could (if he didn't instigate violence towards them) still sue for damages through the civil courts. (Although if the people concerned have nothing such would be a waste of effort, time and money).Rolling Eyes

I thought it was general now for louts to come into places to show off and cause problems. Shops, Hospitals etc.

A sign of all times. We live in a more forgiving society and thus have come to expect some degree of this kind of behaviour as normal. We forgo some of our 'freedoms' for the sake of better conditions in other areas. Unfortunately we cannot have it both ways - we don't have the resources.

Yes Atlas and if someone defends themselves or challenges the behavior of louts they get in trouble themselves. Sign of the times I suppose.

Indeed. Such actions are a precarious business these days. If successful one is prosecuted for 'defending the right' if not one is battered to a pulp and a three month stay in hospital. Not a good recipe for social harmony and a long life.Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes
