No more tax discs
Interesting article on the Autumn Budget/Statement. The current process of sticking a paper disk on your windscreen is to be made obsolete. To be replaced by an electronic version. I can only guess what this means? A 'smart card stuck there instead?

Could it be that you will be issued with a 'smart card' which if you pay across a counter will be proof of deed done and with a card number for on-line deed done use. Seems OK - other than it's 'elecrtronic' and thus subject to fraud, as per credit cards, or hacking etc etc etc. I can see how it will reduce staffing at the DVLA - but otherwise - hmmmmmmmmm!

I imagine that you'll just pay and the record will be held on a computer somewhere. The ANPR system that the police use now picks up straight away if you've paid your VED from your number plate without needing to look at what's on your windscreen.
