MPs' pay rise Empty MPs' pay rise

Well, they are to get an 11% pay rise.     It doesn't have to be voted on and takes their basic pay to £74K. Still brings them way short of RMBC exec pay but a nice little earner nonetheless.

A total p***-take coupled with benefit cuts, rise of food banks etc.

We're really not all in this together.

What on earth do these people spend all their money on?

They need to try living on a basic pension for a while (no benefits involved) and see how they manage then! affraid

The increase is five times the level of inflation. Public sector rises are capped at 1%.

What insight !  - for a basic MP salary rises of 11 % to kick in just after the 2015 elections.

Still, there is always the 'other' claiming system, aka the " Monty Python guide to politics."

We were informed that Rochdale MP Simon Danczuk, elected in 2010, was the fifth most expensive Member of Parliament - after claiming almost £200,000 (£198,770.05) in MP’s expenses in 2012/13.

Mind you, ipsa is also suggesting a future cap on tea and biscuits, and taxis for MPs after 11.00 pm; Rolling Eyes  a bit irrelevant, as we ' do cake ' in Rochdale.

Our MP might refuse the rise and give it to his favourite charity, or maybe, just maybe, he might invite all service users from the Food Bank to his new Deli   Wink

Notwithstanding Jeanie that your MP appears to know, either by instinct or intelligence, that 'pay-rises' from whatever angle, direction or cornerstone they come from are not just plain 'stupid' but an affront to the electorate of this country (and are likely to be so until we are out of this present encumbrance - probably 2020) and , like the 'party leaders,' know just how the lay of the land is. He wants to get re-elected at the next General Election in 2015 - whereas obviously your town councilors don't - and most probably wont be.Exclamation

Have to agree.  All those Cllrs who voted for the recommendation that the pay rise goes through clearly dont give, in the words of Mr Ed Balls , dont give a Toss.

Furthermore, once we all know who votes for the actual pay rise at the meeting will be confirmed as not giving a toss.  So, dont vote for them.

Kick em out.  Along with Mr Dobbin and his utterly disgusting attempt to link the pay rise to GP's.  Time to be put out to pasture in Heywood me thinks.

I confidently predict that, if he chooses to stand again, Jim Dobbin will be easily re-elected regardless of his stanec on any pay rise. He's got a huge majority and as long as he doesn't do anything illegal has a guaranteed seat. Heywood and Middleton aren't ever going to not vote a Labout MP in.

I wish voting papers had a box for NO CONFIDENCE IN ANY OF THEM

It might even increase the turnout!

Surely there are 'others' the people could vote for besides Labour and Conservative. If not then the choice becomes an impossible one if both candidates are not considered worthy. Perhaps someone with an eye for the main chance may just see such an opportunity arising come the next rounds of voting - hmmmmm? Wink
