Lend us a fiver...
Amazing!!
The latest idea from our wonderful serious-issue dodging Police Crime Commissioner holding out his begging bowl.
He then goes on to say:
"I have warned since before I was elected that the government's reckless programme of cuts is endangering community safety." Didn't really stop you appointing a Deputy PCC pulling a large salary, did it Mr Lloyd.
I wonder how many fivers would make up both of his and his little helpers' salaries. Yet stil he dodges questions on when he is going to fire his Chief Constable over his utter failings of his force on the child abuse that happened on his watch.

I wouldn't mind paying an extra £5 if it meant we get more policepersons on the streets. However, like johnb, I wonder how much waste can be reduced in order to release funds . Half a billion pounds a year seems an awful lot of money already and an extra £3 million wouldn't make much difference really.

I raised the exact same issue in my phone call yesterday with Chief Insp Taylor of GMP Rochdale.- lack of Police on the streets
As you know Dale lad. I think the PPC and his Deputy are the biggest waste of cash ever. So yes John B comments are spot on.

I believe that he inherited an amazing number of Police Authority staff. 40+ was one of the figures mentioned. I was thinking that a PA and a couple of secretaries would be more than sufficient.

Re: Lend us a fiver...
People whose houses have been flooded recently have discovered they are paying 41 pence a minute to call the Flood Helpline.
This demonstrates an excellent revenue raising opportunity. People in immediate distress needing help become a lucrative captive audience for premium phone lines.
Calls to all emergency services could raise a considerable revenue if call charges were rationalised and made uniform.
British telecom have been fined as they rather overdid the 'fleece the customer' tricks with their directory enquiries line charging 59p for the first minute and £2.39 per minute after that.
"callers to the service were kept waiting while listening to rambling automated messages"
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/personalfinance/consumertips/household-bills/10615987/BT-ordered-to-refund-thousands-of-pounds-to-customers-after-directory-enquiries-rip-off.html
It may be pointless to fine the Environment Agency for their rip off phone line, as the taxpayer would get the bill. Better to drag the people responsible from their offices and put them to work dredging out rivers with a shovel. B.T. executives could similarly be put to work at some useful task.
Ideas for financing and organising a better and stronger police service are still needed.

Read last night the PCC has been slapped down over his £5 idea by Mr Pickles MP. PCC are now only allowed to ask for 2% by law.
Cue lots of bleating by Mr Lloyd.

This family,

by their sustained, hard working and ingenious fund raising efforts, have contributed £423,942 and 36 pence towards policing.

Now my maths may not be that great. But article states they earned£2.5 million, But only paying back £423.942. So what about the other £2.1millions.

Under section 6 of the Proceeds of Crime Act, the remaining £2.1 million income from crime may be taxable, but could prove complicated to recover. Another question is whether the recovered money will pay for policing or for M.P.s expenses and bailing out banks.

Re: Lend us a fiver...
I do wish you would make more use of the emoticons cyfrifia. When I first read your post I dismissed it as some lunatics somewhere raising money for better policing - er - NO. So I read your 'link'. You were being sarcky weren't you. That required at least one of these :- .
To the topic - these people will no doubt have families or other members who will require to continue living whilst their 'criminal men' do a bit of chokey. The courts cannot deprive others for their 'crimes' and will therefore be unable to take 'all' the proceeds back even were that possible. A 'sixth' does seem a little too little but probably the best on offer from available assets. At one time they would have walked away with it all. So there's some progress if not, in most people minds, sufficient.

May prove complicated? They got so far with the amount, why did they stop?

One person's complicated is another's straightforward. I have trouble deciding what size packet of cornflakes represents best value. A big one seems more economical, but takes up so much room in the house.
When you find out how it all works, Chill, explain it to us.

Fear Not! Help is on the way : Former Manchester council 'number two,' Steve Mycio, has been appointed as an interim Chief Executive for the PCC's office. This is the man / colleague who allegedly took a big-bucks early retirement payout in 2011.
He will be tasked with helping Mr Lloyd ‘reshape’ his office, on a 3-day week.
Some cynic has already commented about another “Job for the Boys.” Skeptics, or what … ! ! http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/former-manchester-council-number-two-6740728

Oh look, another level of paper-moving pen-pushing Management. Diverting even more cash away from the Police front line.
Its disgusting.

I’ve a very basic, open question: Where was this part-time position, ostensibly for an “initial” 3-month period, advertised - with its job description and for how long? Or, is there some legal establishment loophole whereby, under Equality legislation and Fair Recruitment, it wasn’t necessary to make it a public opportunity in advance? Does anyone know, or have any ideas ..
