Foodbank 'success'?
Number of people using Rochdale Food Bank has tripled

‘There are more people in Rochdale turning to the emergency food lifeline than anywhere else in Greater Manchester.’ WHY?
Does this deserve to be chalked up as a success for the Foodbank and its hard working volunteers or is it symptomatic of deeper societal and political failure?

Re: Foodbank 'success'?
I see it both ways.
One, sucess for the Foodbank is assisting those who are in desperate need . I think the volunteers are doing a sterling job in stepping in, as what would be going for people if this bank was not in exsistence. So full marks to them.
However, secondly, its clearly not something to be proud about in the fact more people are using it.. We all know there are food banks springing up everywhere and once again Rochdale is at the top of another list.
I suspect figures will probably creep up even more.
So yes, it's a daming indictment of the failings going on. It seriously annoys me that according to media reports our Goverment is sending foreign aid to India and they are launching space rockets etc.
So clearly we are not all in it together,

And of course, there are claims from government supporters that people are only using Foodbank 'because they're there'. Hinting at some sinister and perhaps fraudulent motives. I have visited the Foodbank 2-3 times on stories etc and my very clear impression is that these really are a last resort for most of their clients.
Like anything else, there will be a few who know how to work the system but for every one of them, there are perhaps 5-10 who would qualify but are too proud to use them. I know of quite a few in this category.

Today's Foodbank recipe tip. Irish Italian pasta surprise!
Coming up to St Patrick's Day, why not treat the family to a wonderful traditional Irish dish with a continental twist for a touch of Mediterranean glamour?
Take a small tin of Newforge Irish stew and mix it into a large bucket containing 5kg of Smartprice pasta which has been boiled for at least an hour. This nourishing meal will feed a family of 12. For extra economy you can omit the Irish stew and substitute a small can of B&M Bargains economy dog food.
