Interesting.
I wonder if there is any truth to the rumour?

My sources confirm that it is indeed true and the project has been underway for several months.
Sadly, but perhaps not entirely unpredictability, many of the Great Man's former colleague have not exactly been straining at the bit to cooperate.
Tsk, tsk.

M.P.s usually have a team of research assistants, does Mr. Danczuk? Will they do the digging?

It 'appears' that a book has already been put together and is awaiting publication on 04/03/2014 : -
Smile For The Camera: The Double Life of Cyril Smith
Synopsis: ‘ Smile for the Camera is a deeply troubling story of a truly shocking abuse of power, and asks urgent questions of those who allowed Smith to get away with it. ’
(by Simon Danczuk and Matthew Baker )
Hopefully any proceeds will already have been earmarked for Victim Support, Barnardos, or similar related services. ? ?

Perhaps, 'Business Accountancy for Dummies' should be his first book.

As stated many times. No man is an angel or perfect. Most make stupid mistakes, especially when younger. Lessons are hopefully learned. It's just a shame few of us take the advice we are offered and rather learn/fall through our own arrogance. It's always best to take the whole man and then judge - if that's what you want to do.

Re: Cyril Smith: New biography
I think he was a bad man with a few good bits. I can overlook a few youthful indiscretions - most of us have spent some time on that particular street. However, Smith was a predatory paedophile who preyed on the most vulnerable after he had used his position to get unrestricted access to them.
The TBA fiasco showed the nature of his politics.

Re: Cyril Smith: New biography
Absolutely Hinch. Smith was a consummate actor, as was Saville and as are most predators of that ilk, they have to be to survive. Most don't know and few would care what their image is after they are gone. That's why I prefer history, from all angles, to cast the subject in an objective light. Which invariably proves the norm - no man is perfect, none are great and certainly none are 'good'.
As for the subject referred to above - I reserve my judgment and would hope he has learned by his mistakes and tries in the future to make up for some of them. What more can anyone hope for??

Re: Cyril Smith: New biography
The trick, as ever is to remember that these are whole beings. They are not just paedophiles. They are often husbands, sons, fathers with successful careers, friends, hobbies etc. No point looking just for the dirty old man in the grubby mac hanging around the playground.
I was very close to someone once who turned out to have been having a sexual affair with a girl aged 11 for 3-4 years. He got got caught and spent a year or so in the slammer. As a friend, I felt I had to support him by prison visiting, helping him resettle etc., whilst making it abundantly clear to him that I found his crimes totally abhorrent. A difficult time and there are no support groups for friends or families of perpetrators yet they too can be totally devastated. Trust me on this one.
In Smith's case; unlike my friend, he was never caught, never faced up to what he did etc. Makes it more difficult; particularly for those left behind.
All water under the bridge now, apart from for the victims who carry it with them forever.
Very hard to get close to someone, believe in them and then realise that all is not as it appears. In Smith's case,I know of only one person who has realised that she had backed a lower and had the courage to say so.
Tricky thing pedestals.

Re: Cyril Smith: New biography
With regards to this part of
I had a best friend from school. Played as kids together in the Summer Holidays, hung out together at each other houses. He lived behind my family's home.
Then one day, many years later, i was watching Granda Reports and his picture popped up in an article. You know the type - passport style - followed by the revelation he had been jailed for child abuse. I will not list the explicit details. But suffice to say I was shocked and never ever suspected he was such a predatory paedo.
Clearly I have never ever been in touch with him since as I see some of his family in Rochdale still .. Never seen him ever in Rochdale since the case. I know he is free from prison now as it was reported he lodged an appeal on his conviction. So a somewhat different aspect to how Hinch coped when he found out someone close to him was convicted.

Re: Cyril Smith: New biography
I've known Innocent men falsely accused, devastated and lives almost totally ruined before the truth emerged and guilty men considered as paragons of virtue and never unmasked as they walked away laughing.
Each of us only know a small amount regarding others but it is safe to say -there are no total innocents or paragons of virtue. Such do not exist. Therefore, as I said before - let history decide, for only time to disseminate and uncover the 'real' truth is ever valid. Meanwhile, accept that everyone has frailties and that we all make mistakes and then hope that we all learn from them and become better than we would have otherwise have been. To do otherwise can only be destructive to all.

There are always weird and duplicitous characters involved in politics and public life, as there are anywhere, so, who takes the blame for not recognising that simple fact and letting Cyril 'get away with it' for many years? The Liberal party?

Re: Cyril Smith: New biography
These admirers of Cyril Smith were presumably, at the time, admiring the image he presented to the public.
Should political parties be, in some way, held legally responsible for the criminal actions of people they promote into positions of power? Do political parties have a duty of care, or can they not be expected to check out suspicions and allegations against candidates they put forward, promote and support?

I like the comment from Nick Clegg:-
"Everybody in Rochdale knew him not only as their MP but also as a friend."
I think quite a few knew him as something else Nick. As a disgusting predatory paedophile who abused his position to violate children in the most disgusting ways imaginable.

Are you on commission, or what
It seems a retarded Publication date (Publisher .. Biteback) for the 340-page hardback will be a couple of weeks before the early May local elections - so you're looking at mid April.
It might be as well for the public to remember C Smith's apparent "fellowship" with politicians from various political parties , at different times , like the Labour MP Jack McCann, Smith's predecessor as MP for Rochdale, who spoke to the DPP on Smith's behalf, .... before looking to hang main blame/responsibility on one segment of a powerful Establishment crop. MI5, Special Branch, Rochdale/Lancashire Police, governments, RMBC officers, to name but a few, were, by a range of accounts, apparently aware.

I believe that the last Chief Constable of the old Rochdale Constabulary is still alive and in his 80's. I wonder if he has been interviewed for his recollections for the book?
Just a thought.

If he is still alive, he will still be drawing his large fat pensions. He will also have been warned off at the first hint of investigative writing on events surrounding his career. Draw your own conclusions on that one.
