Effectively closed 'community' groups structured in dictatorship style seem to be a sign of the times. Such groups can have a lot of 'clout'.

Or not a jot of clout when it comes to some as well. Lots of back slapping etc...but not much else.

Perhaps it's just as well when closed 'community' groups run in dictator style don't have too much clout, but when they do, they can get things done quickly, which appeals to the general public.

Is it better to press for improvements to and within the existing political and administrative system, or sidestep it with unelected community groups that can get things done?

Community Groups can be very effective. My parents ran one for over 20 years and got things done locally which would never have been done otherwise. BUT -. And here lies the rub -. At the head of each of these there is usually one person driving the agenda. Sometimes with the consent of the rest, at others not so. AND - when that person decides he or she has had enough the groups usually disintegrate. On balance however they can be of great benefit. Talking groups (as herein previously described) are quite often just that, talkers. Or to put it another way - all mouth and trousers and benefit only their own personal conceit. They are best avoided. Smile at them and they go away.

Agreed Atlas

Cyfrifa- again good post. Of course its better to go through elected members and people in charge rather than people who think they are in charge.

Those with the self-inflated ego that think they are in charge can always, according to them, do better than those who are actualy in charge, having had of course no previous experience of the position or the complexity of problems that always accompany such positions. Given the opportunity most shrink away with one excuse or another as to why not. The rest once in 'charge' usualy make a far bigger scew-up than anything previously experienced and end up damaging the enterprise one way or another with the result that things are far worse than ever. But I'm telling you something you already know. Best not to get involved with 'pillocks' in the first place.  Wink Wink Rolling Eyes

Rochdale is putting the cloth caps and clogs image far behind it with the start of the 'Rochdale in space' program. Plans to open the first takeaway on the moon ready to cater for astronauts of many nationalities are now well under way, with plans to deliver takeaways to the international space station by space taxi.

affraid Are these space-taxi drivers going to be properly vetted? Do they even know the 'Space Code'? On which side of the moon do they drive? And which way around do they go? It's all very well coming up with these ideas but - have they thought it out? affraid affraid

Very relevant questions. The Rochdale in Space programme is being run as a ten year development plan in co-operation with silicon valley. At the moment, it is at the virtual reality blue sky stage.
