Why can people not see the harm? Empty Why can people not see the harm?

I notice, rightly in my opinion, that the Church of England has been turned down regarding an advert they wished to display in cinemas across the country. The advert is the 'Lord's Prayer' - a 30 second display of telling people to 'Just Pray' (one of the Christian web-sites on the net) and paid for by the C.of E. Why can't they see that it would 'annoy' some cinema patrons? Just the same as the National Anthem does, although I can see much more merit in that particular ditty.
It has been banned by the advertising distributors who have a policy of rejecting political and religious advertising on their screens. What say you?Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

The advertisers have given it greater publicity by banning it. If they had shown it, it would not have been noticed. This is like Mary Whitehouse' infamous promotion of 'The Life of Brian'.

Yes indeed johnb. Perhaps that may have been their way of promoting their business in an obtuse way regardless of the publicity given the C.of E. for the web site 'Just Pray'. Who knows?
BUT - was the policy correct (albeit not really of our concern with a private company's internal PC correctness)? Or is it an affront to our culture and way of life (which is our business)? Wink Wink

if a Buddhist, Sikh or Islamist group had put up a similar advertisement, the establishment figures who are complaining that his has been banned would have complained about the ad being shown. Therefore, the ban is at least consistent and probably correct.

I would not have banned any of them - since speech should be free.

Indeed but by the same criteria the freedom to watch and listen should also be a 'choice'. At home you can switch the rubbish off if you don't like it. In a cinema - the choice is not yours. It's where do you draw the line. Adverts themselves can be offensive if like me you believe the vast majority to be disingenuous - so should they have a policy of no advertising per se? Then of course what would be the point of the company promoting them. I have a personal down on all politics and religions being displayed (in whatever format) to under 16's. Purely on the biases on their misappropriation by the less than well-meaning and would commend the company for refusing all political and religious advertising on their programmes. But that's just me - being me.Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Wink Wink Very Happy
