Dusty and dirty
It will soon be impossible to buy a powerful vacuum cleaner, due to an E.U. ban. Do these E.U. beaurocrats understand how dusty and dirty some houses get, with children and pets, and people continually dropping dead skin and debris. Anyone who wants to get their house properly clean in future will have to spend twice as long with a low powered vacuum cleaner, using just as much electric and not getting it as deep down clean.

The power vacuum in Europe is a problem, but, this law will not fix it. Something will have to be done, or the carpets will become clogged with shake 'n vac.

Re: Dusty and dirty
Probably proposed by a man who has never vacuumed a carpet in his life and doesn't have a clue. Another EEC 'balls up' law and yet another example of why so many of us are fed up with this nanny state mentality the European politicians seem to have acquired. How much has this particular crass decision cost us so far and what will be the outcome when it all goes pear-shaped? Total pea-brains the lot of them.

Re: Dusty and dirty
There is no EU ban on powerful vacuum cleaners. The ban is on cleaners that use too much energy - ie those that are inefficient.

They're not difficult to hoover up at all - especially if you use 7 of the top 10 vacuum cleaners as recommended by Which magazine all of which comply with the new EU standards, don't cost nearly as much to run and don't create problems for asthma sufferers.

Re: Dusty and dirty
Could this be an example of media hysteria causing panic in the population?
The new range of European approved vacuum cleaners should be fitted with a plastic insert in the tube, to play the European anthem as they suck up the dirt and grit, to reassure us that all is well.

The media trying to cause hysteria and panic about the EU? Surely not.
My 'favourite' statistic about this topic is that is everyone in the EU switched to a vacuum cleaner that conformed to the new standards then it would save enough energy annually to power the London Underground for 20 years.
I'm sure it's not beyond the wit of Mr Dyson to make his devices play a nice bit of Ode To Joy. For all the others that devour lots of energy, create a lot of noise, spread disease and don't do the job then can I suggest the theme from Top Gear?

Re: Dusty and dirty
The development of musical vacuum cleaners is sadly lagging far behind public demand, but, may recieve a boost when the powers that be read this thread.

You should go on Dragons' Den with your idea. And no need to stop at vacuum cleaners - all household appliances could be fitted with a device that played either music of your choice or autoselect music that was appropriate for the task in hand.

Re: Dusty and dirty
Everyone loves autoselect music, can't go wrong with that idea. It looks more iffy for the chap on dragons den with his invention of combined bagpipes and vacuum cleaner, hoping to clean up in the Scottish post-referendum market.

Re: Dusty and dirty
Is it powerful enough to suck a billion quid a year across the Scottish border then - to add to the other billion we already give them each year to pay their way. If so can you ask him to bring it down here to Wales as we would also like anothe half a billion quid a year extra to that which we already get by way of extra over grants to help us out also. The world's going bloody mad. When will people ever realise that Nationalists are NEVER any good for any society no matter where it is????

Re: Dusty and dirty
This attempt to panic people into buying powerful hoovers while they are still available has resulted in a fifty per cent increase in sales.

So obviously the chap in Europe who thought it all up is a consultant for some vacuum cleaner manufacturer then. Clever -. Very clever.
