The USA will elect a new president in November. If Mr. Trump and Mrs. Clinton are still standing by then, it will be one or the other of them.

Broadly speaking, Trumpism is the USA minding it's own business, Clintonism is the USA policing the world.

With the world the way it is, and from where we are, which is the better prospect?

Isolationism can no longer work in a world of total globalisation - ergo - Trumpism is destined to fail from the outset. In response and hoping to survive the man's foreign policies will create havoc - if he is allowed to use them - which I very much doubt he will. Far right rhetoric, wake up the masses. Promise jam today. Get blood tomorrow. Windbag with a blunt pin hoping he doesn't explode in the process. Another unfortunate sign of our times. Promise the idiots anything they want to hear. Doesn't matter. Once we have the power we can piss on anybody's chips we want to with impunity. Too late by then - - - .

Clintonism by female injection.  Not popular. Too establishment and not good at providing trickle down. Been too long in the making and too set in its way. Not trusted to deliver for all. But. What choice do they, the voters, have?

It's the lesser of two evils. But they should take the lesser that is the safest. Even at the point on no progress for a decade or two. I know which I trust the most - and it's never the 'brass' you can see. Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad :cry

It's still neck and neck between Hilary Clinton and Donald Trump. Two very different directions for the USA.

Perhaps a phase of isolationism is suitable for the USA, it's a big place with plenty of resources. Rather different to isolationism here, an overcrowded island with dwindling natural resources.

Any President taking the USA into a period of isolationism should be strung up. Now is certainly not the time for such moves. I suspect we are approaching the most dangerous time of the century of the 'terror wars' i.e. the 2020's/30's which if not satisfactorily neutered by the 'big' powers will only lead to greater disasters. And - the balance of powers has to be maintained across the globe which if the USA withdraws or is seen to back-off will be instantly swamped by those remaining and all hell could break loose. Now is not the time for faint-hearted and as our time has been and gone and we cannot rely on our European neighbours to stop talking and do something it leaves only the USA as a counter-balance.Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

Depends how you view american isolationism and how long it goes on for. If they prioritise putting their own country in order, and looking after their own population, they might be in a stronger position in a few years time?

By which time it will be too late and the damage will have been done. He who hesitates is lost. For instance - China. A population of one and a half billion people. Ruled by the iron fist - in order to keep order - and with insurmountable problems due to its own past political policies. There's nothing to stop China from expansion, which is vital to her continued iron-fist existence, if the USA pulls back and hops for a period of isolationism. This is what happened in the 1920/30s after WW1 and look what happened when her power was removed, by Hoover and others, from the negotiating table. Force has to met with force in order to keep the balance. Nuclear weapons don't even figure in the argument as, in this case; both have ample supply. But conventional disharmony can cause massive chaos, as in the Middle east etc, none of which the world either wants or needs. Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Sad Sad Sad Sad

And as i said - whilst Americans prevaricate amongst themselves the rats gather to nibble on the proceeds of their greed. Putin launches his Northern and Baltic fleet which as we speak sails down our coastline and through our Channel on its way to plunder and pacify the terrorists in their Syrian lair. Who provides the biggest dangers? Assad. Putin. ISIL or Trump? Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

There is usually quite a difference between what people say and what they do. It will probably be interesting, not too interesting we may hope, to see what President Trump does, but I haven't been and won't be able to listen much to what he says because he has such an irritating voice.

Let's see what's on the list, smash Islamic State pretty damn quick, deport thousands of criminal immigrants, build a huge wall, play ping-pong with Putin, what else is on the Trump agenda?

It comes as no surprise that Trump trumped the establishment. Many Americans have been ignored for decades whilst the establishment rolls around playing with fat-cat policies and self-indulging at the masses expense. The bubble was bound to burst and the Democrats should have seen it coming. Bernie Sanders would have stood a better chance but he is too socialist for most top Democrats and was side-lined. So now we have the isolationist 'screw you we are looking after ourselves' President Elect Trump. Europe will now have to pay its proper dues to NATO if that is to survive - we always have done - we shall see. Climate change - America doesn't care. Neither does Trump. Middle East - that could go up in flames faster than a bat out of hell. Trump cares less as America is almost self sufficient in fossil fuels and is surveying for more. We shall have to see as the dust settles. Me - I don't care one way or the other, I've done my bit.Wink Wink Wink Wink Wink Wink

Care, one of those rather important little words with a wide range of uses and meanings, some of them rather tongue in cheek, e.g. care as a commodity.

If people don't care, it is best if they say so. Carefreee, now, there's a happy sounding word.

OK. I am free of care. So I don't take umbrage at what they do from now on because they never listened in the past and they won't listen in the future because they's an arrogant set of 'we know best' and 'opps' when it all goes tits-up because it was done from the best of intentions - which is another way of saying 'because we didn't know any different and wasn't prepared to listen to any good advice'. So there you have it in a nutshell - although how you get all that rant in a nutshell without having a coconut I don't know. Comunication, finding out what people are onnabout can sometimes be a complex business, understanding what they mean, and what the implications of that may be is even more of a stretch of imagination.

Language is a mystery, when spoken, the tone, timing and timbre of a grunt can say more than words, apparently, and of course what isn't said or grunted upon can be the main item.

Civilisations of the past, more and more of which are being identified by modern archology, of earlier and earler date such as the one at 'Gobleki Tepe' left nothing in writing, why is that?

Our modern media communication systems are all about words, apart from the non-linguistic content, which is considerable, but when words are used, what do they mean?

This problem is being brought into sharp focus as the British media struggle to make sense of all the strange things that Prezidentilect Trump has said, and what they could possibly mean.

Our codebreakers are currently working on a Trumplator app, for use in government offices. The decontextualisation circuits have been installed, and the answer so far is that all existing data has been dumped into the 'campaign rhetoric' spam file.

No secret whatsoever. He simply used the same tactic used by many successful orators of the past to its best effect. Keep it in short sharp messages. The bigger the lie the more will believe. Be bullish in the face of criticism. Hitler, Stalin and Mussolini knew how to do it to mention only three recent ones. Rapid denial and colourful accusation can be added if the rest fail. Don't be specific. Don't debate policy. You see how easy it is to learn -. Off you go now and you too can become Master of the Universe.Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile

As yet, it's not so much what Trump might do that's driving the agenda, as the reactions of people to what they think he might do.

The pundits and critics are on the case about the Trump-Taiwan telephone call. Whether done by design or accident, a useful move. The expansion of China into the Pacific is difficult for the USA to challenge, international waters and trade routes are being compromised. The next USA president is going to have to deal with this, without precipitating a conflict.
For a president elect to talk to Taiwan sounds the right note, showing involvement and dialogue to start setting boundaries in trade and military relations, without the diplomatic rift a contact with a serving USA president would cause.
Easy for everyone to put the conversation down to Trumpish inexperience and stupidity, thus saving face, while setting the underlying agenda quite strategically.
Silly Trump. Cool

I concur. No mistake. Done purposely. Set's the tone. China has more to worry about than going to war with the West - for in actuality what purpose will it serve? China can make far more money by allowing the West to destroy itself whilst supporting its demise and picking up the residues (all the other countries not involved). Again it's not rocket science. The West doesn't need China to make its own mistakes. It's doing very nicely thank you on its own. Trump may push (as Obama should have already done) and providing he doesn't really do something stupid it will be brushed aside by Beijing. Smile Smile Smile

Short sharp messages can be useful, but, Prezidentilekt Trump seems to be trying to rule the world by tweeting at it. Will this inane twittering stop when he gets to the White House in just a few day time? Can 'his people' distract him away from the tablet or whatever, perhaps by shaking a stick with jangly bells and coloured ribbons on it.

No. In fact it is more likely to increase. Trump isn't a politician. He doesn't talk like a politician, he isn't as diplomatic as a politician, he doesn't even look like a politician - - -ergo -- HE ISN'T A POLITICIAN.

Therefore why would anyone expect him to act like one??????? Shocked

He is what he is. A very cunning business man. My advice - - - Watch this space ----. Razz Razz Razz

Perhaps the media will get used to his tweets and stop being shocked and horrified every five minutes. He may not be a politician as such, but is already giving a revitalising boost to the 'political humour' industry. Let's see how he gets on. Smile

I don't think who sings at the Inauguration was Donald's specific choice and I doubt it really matters.
One cannot foretell how things will pan out as we have yet to discover what insanities lurk within those who will have the 'man's' ear or just how much he will listen. Today's media are a complete set of 'mojo' wavers. Everything is a catastrophe or if not it's about to be. The vast majority talk absolute piffle and are skilled in only one thing - waffling -. The skill today, as a listener, is to know who waffles tripe and who waffles reality and to be aware of 'agendas'. Most people don't have the time to differentiate, as they are trying to survive, and as such are easily led into the wrong conclusions from disingenuous sound-biting. What is it - You can fool some of the people some of the time and all of the people some of the time - but not all the people all of the time. Still holds true.Wink

The Trump effect seems quite promising so far, with many thousands of people getting out and about, socialising in 'real' and, improving their cardio-vascular health with marching shouting and banner-waving.

Rent a mob and wasting-timers with a few retired biddies who don't want to feel lonely. Anybody left on the streets protesting after a week are by definition selfish loud-mouths who preach democracy but fail to know its meaning. Life, to live it properly and with equanimity, requires we accept the majority, whether we like it or not, and work towards make the best of the situation through compromise. Anything less and it's back to the caves and every man for himself. Which might suit if you're young, healthy and love the hunt or alternatively a bloody lunatic - but most are not in that category. Maybe it is inevitable that the contraversial oil pipeline through native american territory will be built at some time. Trumps' immediate support to get the job done gives the  impression of ruthlessness. Business project management is supposed to be his forte, we will see how well he manages this one.
