Problems on the A58
Huge backlog of traffic on the A58 this morning they have temporary lightsat the bottom of Wardle Road after a water burst near to the Sandknockers plus an accident on the M62 between two vans and a bike has added to the problem with heavy wagons coming through Littleborough. I really needed to go to Littleborough but will wait till later !

Traffic is still a mess as the lights are still in place at the bottom of Wardle Road. There are however, no workman in sight.

Yer and there are probably leaves on the line.................. or the wrong type of snow! lol
When this or planned roadworks cripple the road system, surly they should work 24/7 till they are done? We are often subjected to major problems caused by roadworks and find that the workmen only work 8am till 3pm and not at weekends - it is time this changed.

In certain circumstances it may not be possible to work 24/7 on roadworks.

But on a lot it is and would cause a great deal less trouble to the road users.

True there is a lot to be desired about roadworks.keithatrochdale wrote:Chill37 wrote:In certain circumstances it may not be possible to work 24/7 on roadworks.

You have the work crews who dig the hole.
Then the crew who does the work in the hole that was just dug.
Then a 'backfilling' crew who fill the hole.
What really irks me that recently we have had eight or so weeks of water works in Newhey where new pipes storm drains installed. Just got past that road chaos. Now we have signs going up saying thet major gas works are taking place in the exact same area. Would it not be easier to do ALL the work at the same time the road is up.

I totally agree and they should have to work 24/7 to cause the minimum of disruption. We all have examples of this type of crass stupidity. Look at the roadworks a while ago near Tescos. A few years ago on the road down to Milnrow traffic lights with gas pipes, single file traffic and no workers after 3 or at weekends. Have all the people that authorise these works had a brain lobotomy?

Not snow or leaves. Maybe a vital part though, in this case, as I said. I don't imagine they keep a huge stockpile of all potentially required parts, due to the cost implications. Many would then end up as scrap if or when they became obsolete. I agree with you about the planned roadworks. Can't be that hard to have all the parts and a workforce ready to work till it's done.keithatrochdale wrote:Dalelad wrote:Maybe they are waiting for a part to arrive?keithatrochdale wrote:Traffic is still a mess as the lights are still in place at the bottom of Wardle Road.
