Wind your neck in TP! This is a chat forum not the Tooting Popular Front website!
Best way to find out what's happening is to get your arse down there and find out. I report on things that are happening. My organising days ceased two years ago.
I get the impression that there is a strength of feeling on this issue. Whether or not this counts as an organised demo I don't know
My task is to report the news, not create it..

Re: Pay rise for council leaders?
By heck hang on a minute! I sent an email to Rochdale Online that I was going to the Town Hall to protest and I do not know how many wanted to join me in the protest. Rochdale Online did not reply or did not want to know. All I know was that some other group was trying to do something what I read on another website.
Rochdale Online Newsdesk did not reply to me or decided not to run with it. Either way I did not get a reply.

I can't speak for RO but I imagine that they too feel themselves to be in the business of reporting the news and not organising demos.
You said you wanted to organise a demo. Fine, go ahead and do it. Easy enough to do using Twitter, Facebook, chat forums etc. This one would be a gift to get going. You have a hot issue causing widespread concern, lots of angry people, loads of local and national media interest, TV coverage, a scheduled event to picket. Get your finger out and stop expecting others to do it for you. Life doesn't work like that!
In any case, some things are best allowed to develop spontaneously. Quite a few people have contacted me via phone, text, PM etc letting me know they intend to go down there to voice their concerns and speak to councillors.

Is R.M.B.C. getting good value for money from the Hay Group consultants who advised this pay rise ? Perhaps Hey group will be sending a spokesperson to explain why infuriating the population of Rochdale is a good idea.

The members of the Hay Group will be in a posh wine bar in London ordering bumpers of vintage Krug with their booty Cyfrifia.
I doubt if any of them know where Rochdale is.

Id like to think commonsense has set in but I think it's probably more to do with pressures from within. The make up of the Employment Committee may provide some clues.

I have got my finger out and emailed councillors and other websites. Also placed on websites for people to join me, Why the personal attacks? I asked Rochdale Online to tell people and may be of part of the news. Up to them if they wanted it as news or not. They do not seem good at acknowledging they have received some of my emails. Rochdale Observer do. I would be there for people to protest and join me if they wish if they have not already done so.

If the CEO has enough spare time to join the Police Commissioners Office, does this mean he has not been working a full week for RMBC?

Re: Pay rise for council leaders?
I have had replies from Councillor Lambert, Councllor Allen Brett ad Councillor Andrew Kelly. Nothing from Councillor Ashley Dearnley. Though the Tory Councillor I did expect that?????
At least it was decent enough professional reply from Councilor Lambert and the other Coucillors. Nobody got personal.

Re: Pay rise for council leaders?
I am not sufficiently aware of the precise details regarding the cut-backs this last two years within the Rochdale area. It would make common-sense for someone to spend a little time doing some comparisons with regards 'expenditures' on proposed salary increase for these well-healed rampaging inadequates ( obviously thus as they have to employ consultants at exorbitant prices to tell them how to do their job), set against the withdrawal of funding to the various charities and help groups etc which, should these increases be disallowed, would have kept these various helpful institutions working for the overall good of the community. A financial like against like straight forward comparison to 'show-up' the results of the obscenity that such greed (for that's what it is) promulgates.

Re: Pay rise for council leaders?
Sadly though predictably, the media were held to blame at last night's council meeting. "50% of people writing about this don't even live in Rochdale" was said at one point.
Well, I no longer live in Rochdale but did for 35 years and I still work there and have family. Does this not qualify me to have an opinion or be able to see what's going on? I also spend my money in the town's pubs, shops and restaurants.
Sorry councillors, this is YOUR dog's breakfast. It was none of my doing. You are so out of touch it's unbelievable. Get down from your ivory towers and talk to the punters now and then, rather than the toadies and management consultants you surround yourselves with.
This is YOUR cock-up, it happened on YOUR watch on the back of a report that YOU commissioned... Geddit? Take responsibility for your own actions and stop bleating like lost sheep and looking around for scapegoats. The media report what they see and hear. I think it's called a 'free press.'

Re: Pay rise for council leaders?
I've just read the minutes over on RO,
Shocked really isnt the word. The Council hasn't listened, otherwise they would have stopped the pay rise not deferred. Cllr Kelly pushing for an Arts Centre. Bearing in mind it was the Lib Dems that promised us one on the basis if we dont , then dont vote for us. Then next up is the clown Cllr Brett with the motion protect the British Pub, well meaning but utterly against the grain of topic at the moment.
But it is ok lets have a round of applause, as proposed by Cllr Kelly.
But, the best delusion was Cllr Lamber saying he feels his party has the support of the people. Call the Ambulance !!!

Very well put Chill. Obviously RO, the local paper and this and other forums must be inventing all these people coming in with negative comments.
It's all a plot!!!
He clings to his delusions as if they were some sort of comfort blanket. It's the only thing keeping him warm.

Re: Pay rise for council leaders?
It seems a bit unfair to blame Cllr Lambert alone for this omnishambles. If the press reports are to be believed then 'up to 15 Labour councillors' were against the proposals for these vast increases.Hinch wrote:He clings to his delusions as if they were some sort of comfort blanket. That leaves nearly 30 that weren't.

Re: Pay rise for council leaders?
Cllr Lambert has chosen to stamp his own brand very firmly on this one in media statements, interviews etc. It would therfore seem reasonable that the lions share of the brickbats are hurled in his direction.
I think it goes with the job.

Or he's carrying the can for the vast majority of his group who support these increases but don't have the guts to say so.

I've never regarded Julius Caesar as a martyr particularly, but you may have a point.
