The UK is not a soft touch?

"No one should think for a moment that courts in the UK will be a soft touch." Said the judge as he sentenced a gang of ten Romanians to a total of 82 years in jail.

The gang came to London to rob gold from shops, using sledgehammers. They stole over a million pounds worth of gold, very little of which has been recovered.

One of the gang told police: "I don't care, I go to prison to go on holiday."

So, the UK keeps ten Romanians in prison for a total of 82 years, that will cost a bit, and loses nearly a million in gold. Not a good result for the UK really.

There is some mention of this gang being deported when they finish their prison sentences, but the chances of that happening look fairly low.

Deport them to finish their sentances more like.

The UK does need skilled immigrants, some with the skills to organise and run an immigration service would be good, as nobody here can do it.

This is what happens when you have inequitable laws imposed by unthinking jobsworths.

Over-population, wars, famines, poverty, displaced and trafficked people is pretty much a world wide problem. Where Europe and the UK comes in all that is a big question to contemplate.  Sheer weight of numbers seems the potentially overwhelming problem for the future, not just for the UK, but generally.

For the UK though, will the shambles of recent years continue? It doesn't appear to be either helpful or useful.
