More businesses to go bust?
Ban selling chips before 5pm, say Salford council, in a bid to fight childhood obesity
Chippies, kebab houses and chains such as McDonald’s would not be allowed to serve hot food over the counter before 5pm under the plans being proposed by Salford council.
I wonder if they would relax the rule in school holidays, or what about workers who use these places to buy lunch?
How much further can big brother intrude in everyday life?

What about the Parents? What is their input in their childs diets and what they eat. It seems to me its a case of its anyones fault but the parents that their chidlren are obese? Seems an easy cop-out here. Blame the fast food outlets so the rest of us suffer as in not being able to get a once every-so-often fast food meal.
Although it runs in my mind a cold salad from Maccy D's were once laden with more salt etc than a Big Mac. So puts paid to the hot food ban.

I think a lot of businesses will lose a lot of money, Greggs sell hot food all through the day, its not only chippies and kebab shops, will it extend to cafes?
I think the ones making these decisions havent thought about it, its just something to do.

These people should be doing something useful, decorating and putting up shelves.

Although I agree that this stinks of 'nanny state' intervention, I DO believe that too many families rely on fast food outlets as their main diet. OK, we all like the odd fish n chips etc but, to make fast food your main meal most days a week (as opposed to COOKING something yourself)....no good!

Very true and important, Poppy. To eat properly means proper home cooking of good food. It's sad that so many rely on fast food.
On the subject of shops and businesses closing down, with arrangements for business rates etc. as is, predictions are that high streets will continue to lose shops, in some cases become residential, and the shape of towns will change over the next few years.

Don’t want to spoil this with facts but the outlets affected are those within 400 yards of a school, according to GMR.
I’m with Chill on this one parents should be in charge of what children eat not the fat peddling businesses or the food police. Just had a visit from one of my great grand daughters, 9 months old, and she loves fresh fruit, the little madam ate one of me bananas.

My grandsons used to ask for cucumber when they were little, they loved it.

Well a 400 metre ban would put out of business every takeaway between Cutgate, Bury Road, Spotland Road and Shawclough village.
That is hard since these businesses service mainly small businesses without canteen facilities.
The answer? Make school dinners cheap and attractive, and ensure there is enough going on that children do not wish to leave the premises.

Leave the premises????!!!! Who would want to go there in the first place?
A lot of hot air and ballderdash and not worthy of the publicity. The man's just looking for votes.

No sadder sight than seeing a 2-year old sat in a pushchair propelled by a fag-smoking parent as they suck alternately on their dummy and a piping-hot Gregg's sausage roll.
