Unrepentant Bongo Bongo man.

Post  cyfrifia on Thu Aug 08, 2013 8:18 am

Mr. Godfrey Bloom MEP for Yorkshire and the Humber has apologised for any offence taken from his use of the phrase "Bongo Bongo Land " to describe places that receive foreign aid from the UK and spend it on Ray-Ban sunglasses, apartments in Paris, and Ferraris.

He remains unrepentant that the UK sending money abroad in billions with no proper accountability, at a time of national financial crisis with our own basic services such as NHS and policing being cut is "Treason".

Treason is a strong word and 'Bongo Bongo Land ' an old fashioned phrase, but the facts as much as we know them do support his idea that much of foreign aid is not properly accounted for and is mis-spent.

Mr. Bloom MEP seems to have a fair argument, but, an unfortunate turn of phrase in putting it forward.

If he did have a fair argument you'd think he'd have been able to gather some evidence to support it. On Channel 4 last night he was repeatedly asked to back up the allegations he made. Instead of doing so he stormed off.

Probably about the same time the rest of the political parties did? Smile

The bongo-bongo man has agreed to never say 'bongo-bongo' again, and, told he must not sing 'Bingo-bango-bungle, I'm so happy in the jungle' etc. at birthday parties even if requested to do so.

The man was only saying that which most people would say given a country in which freedom of speech exists. He may have been exaggerating somewhat in his book-keeping figures but the gist of his argument had merit. However - foreign aid has other uses and is not just a hand-out - although you won't get any self-respecting government official to tell you otherwise.Wink Wink Wink

If the foreign aid the UK government gives was a hand-out to the poor people of the world, to feed the hungry, drinking water and medicine for those in need, the billions of pounds given away would be more understandable. Apparently it is rather more complicated.

The bongo bongo man has drummed up some attention to the subject of foreign aid, but, his criticism is wishy washy and does not get down to the nitty gritty, which leaves us in limbo once more.

The question I would like to see answered. How come they can find all this money for foreign aid and yet do not have the money to help the health service to treat people here in the UK?

Very odd we cannot help people here in this country like the homeless and see people wanting for food and health services and yet find billions of pounds for foreign aid.

Do we have money or not?

If foreign aid went to feed hungry people it would be understandable, but, it seems to be used for everything except that.
