I just get so lost in the story line it's brilliant
I might apply to be an extra just in case the wedding falls through and they need a stand in

I've never watched it, somehow it doesn't appeal to me.

Re: Downton Abbey
I used to really like it and it has some fab lines in it; particularly Maggie Smith's BUT, Julian Fellowes writing is really naff at times. Cliche after cliche. It can only get worse now that Shirley MacLaine has arrived as a sop to American audiences.
Some of the plot-lines go on for far too long. How long are they going to keep that poor sod in prison when we all know he will be found innocent and restored to Downton as we also know that the family fortunes will be restored. It's all a bit too predictable.
Plus, some of the plot lines are weak and thin. All that familiarity between servants and masters etc.
The Queen can't stand him, reportedly and finds him to be a snob and must admit I agree with her.
Love the costumes and Maggie Smith. The rest I am finding it increasingly hard to watch though Mrs H loves it.

I must admit I didn't enjoy his adaptation of Titanic.

Re: Downton Abbey
Same sort of thing in Downton Chill. Loads of really predictable plot-lines signposted in with the most mind-numbing cliches. Yet despite all that, some good acting, fantastic costumes and the occasional brilliant one-liners usually uttered by Dame Maggie.
"What is a 'weekend?" stands out as one of the best.

Re: Downton Abbey
Good points, but i dont really pick up on all the cliches in Downton like I did in Titanic.
But yes there is fantastic acting and yes Dame Maggie does steal all the scenes she is in.

Re: Downton Abbey
Love Dame Maggie!
I enjoy Downton despite the inaccuracies and other niggles. I try to switch-off that little nagging voice at the back of my mind (as if!) and enjoy it purely as a piece of Sunday evening entertainment.
Despite the series being on after the watershed I find it something we can happily sit down and watch as a family. I can not say the same of Eastenders and other soaps which we give a wide berth to.

It could easily be shown at 8pm. Instead of that rubbish X Factor.

Re: Downton Abbey
I have seen it but also watched a rerun of the Upstairs and Downstairs series on freeview channel Yesterday. Starring the great Gordon Jackson as the butler.
You must admit some of these modern programmes cannot compare to the brilliant old series of Upstairs and Downstairs. TV GOLD from the past.

I have also managed to miss all episodes of Inspector Montalbano, which is of more interest to me than DA

Yes. It is set in Sicily and is Italian with subtitles. Excellent for students of Italian such as myself.
