Mad dog wrestling

Post  cyfrifia on Mon Nov 21, 2016 2:03 pm

This chap who was driving along and saw a pit bull tear another dog to pieces, dived in and wrestled the pit bull. Frankly, amazing courage. Wrestling a large pit bull in kill mode is about equvalent to wrestling a leopard.

The owners should be imprisoned for 6 months and heavily fined and banned from keeping dogs for life. Although it's a dog's nature to fight we have laws regarding excessive violent dogs and the breeding and keeping of such specific breeds. The law is there - but unenforceable due to resources. Altogether, three men wrestled this pit bull. One got a suspected broken wrist, one said it was like fighting a bear, one was electrocuted by the taser used by police with riot shields and tasers, which still didn't stop the dog. Then, the dog had to be shot three times with a gun before it died. Quite a drama, leaving people traumatised.

http://www.thisislancashire.co.uk/news/14917775.Pitbull_type_dog_that_killed_two_dogs_is_shot_dead_by_marksman_after_being_Tasered/

A large pit bull in agressive killing mode as described, is a considerable opponent for three unarmed men, something between fighting a leopard and fighting a bear. All of them were very brave. Good job the police were quick and were armed.

Going by the story as told, it would appear the pit bull had been trained to kill dogs, but not to attack humans, or there might have been more injuries to people.

The owner should be prosecuted and imprisoned as I said before. If trained to kill dogs it's being trained to take part in an illegal act which is the responsibility of the owner. No excuses. Evil or Very Mad

It might be difficult to imprison dangerous dog owners, although a three year sentence is available to courts. Being a fool isn't a crime in itself, but when such a person owns a potentially dangerous dog, it can cause trauma, injury and suffering. This attack isn't a one off event, it's fairly regular. Here, some recent similar incidents of mad dog wrestling.

Perhaps owners of dogs that attack like this could be placed under house arrest, only allowed out, on all fours, on a lead, for a week or two. That would do them no harm and might make them think.

The point is about the failure of civilisation. In a stone age society, we might expect dangerous animals to be roaming the pathways, taking chunks of flesh out of people, occasionally killing them and tearing domesticated animals to pieces.

However, after many centuries of complex organisation and technical progress, to find ourselves drifting back into a situation where that is the reality, we should question why that is. Is this really the best we can manage?

Perhaps a few adjustments should be made to the rules and habits of the society we inhabit, so it will be possible for people to go about their business and pleasure without having to wrestle killer dogs.

What are those adjustments and changes? That's where the conversation or debate might start, if there was anybody interested to pick up the thread. Neutral

Of course it cuts both ways, as this example of a dog owner who should perhaps be chained and muzzled shows.

Domesticated dogs have to be trained to kill or bred from previously trained attack dogs. This is done by owners of dogs - ergo the owners are to blame for their animals actions. The idiot on the train (see video) is obviously in some state of mental unbalance, possibly abused or frustrated by peers at some previous juncture, and seeks to take his frustrations out, in the form of cruelty, on his animals. It's a form of 'power' over others - in this case the dog. He would be dangerous around young children given the same circumstance. Sad world out there -. Domesticated dogs are very much a product of many centuries of selective breeding. Most breeds have been chosen and developed for characteristics compatible with humans, and for specific jobs, hunting, herding etc.

Some breeds have been developed as fighting dogs, either to fight humans as war dogs, guard dogs etc, or to attack or hunt particular animals.

This background of the functions of dogs has become less relevant today, dog breeds often chosen for their looks, size and compatibility with lifestyle.

Certain fighting dogs have become popular as pets, and retain some of their fighting characteristics. Identifying and removing those potentially dangerous dogs of problematic genetic heritage is a tricky and perhaps politically incorrect business.

Owning a dog is a practical matter, and, often a valuable learning experience, common sense is needed, as well as a certain amount of weight and strength to restrain a dog if necessary. It can be worrying to see a slight person given a couple of big, heavy potentially fierce dogs to walk. Who is in charge there?

Yes the chap on the train looks like a typical sad case, so many people have their brains addled by drugs now, which compounds other problems.

And the real answer is - - - . Round up all fighting breeds and eradicate the species - - -. Canine genocide on a scale unheard of in human history. Ban all breeding farms and lock up for life anyone caught breaking the rule. But that will never happen will it. So we put up with 'mad-dog' incidents and the deaths of a few humans and throw up our hands in despair and say - hey-up - there goes man in his pursuit for individual freedoms - regardless of the costs to others. Or, maybe a register of and special licence for keeping dangerous breeds, people who want to need to meet certain criteria, similar to having a gun license. No, hang on, that doesn't get enforced properly. Looks like our society will just have to continue to rely on people behaving intelligently, sensibly and responsibly.

In a dog eat dog world perhaps we could get the dogs to eat humans instead. Train the dogs to eat their owners and then shoot the dogs. That way we could kill two dogs with one owner.
It's all a load of cow pats. We domesticated the dog/wolf to do our bidding because it was easier for us to catch our food. It was the beginnings of man's desire for a more sedentary life style. The chappie in the news battering his dog on a train got an "indefinite" ban on keeping animals. I hope "indefinite" means permanent, it should. Banning people from keeping animals for a year or two is useless, serious, deadly, cruelty to animals, life ban on keeping them. Simple.

As previously posted to Facebook - The guy has problems - probably stems from frustrations of aspirations and a feeling of no self-worth. He could be 'sorted' with a bit of care unless it is found that he has a more untreatable malady in which case - simply shoot him. Wink Wink Wink Wink Shocked

There may not be a mad dog wrestler available when you need them, as when this lady and her two pet dogs were attacked.

Perhaps more mad dog wrestlers could be trained up to provide a much needed public service.

Visiting is all very well. But don't make a habit of it as it upsets the neighbours.

So where are you being a 'visitor' then johnb? Smile

Todays news is of an american bulldog, a legal but heavy breed, injuring four in north Manchester. If we take it as read that this is going on constantly, perhaps it makes sense to keep smaller, calmer dogs, easier to defend against when it does all go 'pear shaped'?

Mad dog wrestling may be a dramatic and useful sport, but; It's too risky, we can't expect amateur mad dog wrestlers to appear everywhere they are needed.

Smaller and calmer are not words that sit together well with dogs. I have seen many heavy breeds where the biggest risk is being crushed when they attempt to fall asleep on you, and countless small breeds who would rip your face off given chance.
