Confession
The subject of poltics in threads has inevitably arisen. Reading threads gives a reasonable indication of what the writers political leanings are.
I have been a socialist all my my life. I would describe myself as certainly left of centre.
Would other forum users care to bare their political souls? Go on! Confession is supposed to be good for ones.

Re: Confession
In my youth I was a Liberal, however I learnt the error of my ways many years ago and now consider myself aggressively non-aligned.

Re: Confession
I am a socialist.
I am not a member of any political party. My version of socialism and that of some elected "party members" differs greatly.

Re: Confession
I make no secret of my politics, but I don't support or belong to any party, so don't know how to describe it really, I am a pragmatist, whatever works best in the long run to give everyone a good life.

And those that dont care to play the 'confession' game?
I thought confessions were about admitting guilt of some sort.

Re: Confession
Yes. A person's politics are their own concern and nothing should be inferred about those who choose to keep their politics to themselves.
I'm a bit surprised at PI asking the question.
What next? "When did you last see your father?"

I suppose it depends one whether one feels guilty or not. Those who don't want to "play the game" are free to do as they wish. There are threads that in my opinion demonstrate political bias. I wondered if forum members wanted to show what they believe in. Some clearly do.

Either my mathematics are at fault or two declarations have been withdrawn.

Re: Confession
Yes, mine was one. On mature reflection I decided not to give others a stick to beat me with later on in the time-honoured fashion so beloved of some posters.
Yes, I vote. Yes, I am a member of a political party. No, I have not always voted for one particular party.
That's about it really.

Re: Confession
I am very happy that I have a political belief , but not stuck with one particular political party. It's good being an independent socialist, shame I did not become one years before. Still lean towards Labour of the big parties, but I have the same loyalty to them I they do to me.

Re: Confession
I do tend to vote for the party which I best believes sticks up for working men and women.
Sadly, this has not always been the one that would normally be my party of first choice.

Socialist and Labour Party voter, sad to say because l believe they are not as bad as the others. Wish there was a real Lobour party but as there isnt l am stuck will the Labour party we have. The reason l vote is because voting was a bloody and long fought battle and not to vote seems more of a crime than not voting because you are not 100% happy with the political partys we have.

It's a fair point. I see myself as a socialist looking out for the working men and women and those who cannot for a variety of reasons look after themselves. Exploitation of those less able to stand up for themseves is evil in my opinion. The Labour party does not always manage to prevent that I admit but I retain my membership because I believe it to be the party that best reflects my views. I fear there is a rising right wing movement in this country and it worries me.

Very well said. Sadly the LP has been on the decline since Neil Kinnock sided with the Thatcher government against the Liverpool City council, and failed miserably to oppose Thatcher in her campaign against the mining industry. Still better/not as bad as the Lib Dems and Tories. Still some good people in Labour, but they really need the Blarite Tories to leave and join the Tories where they belong.

Re: Confession
I may be working on that particular issue Sparky!
Labour have been failing to stick up for workers for decades. They never back strikers and Miliband continues the tradition. Totally gutless.
I do have to say that Labour has not always kept faith with the working class in more ways than failing to back properly constituted industrial action.
I worked hard most of my life but for quite a while, it lost its appeal to many of us who worked hard for a living annd chose instead to become the party of fringe issues and lost causes in which it failed to keep faith with its own roots.
You can afford to take on no end of small-scale, minority & fringe issues as long as you understand a bit of basic Marxism and stay firmly glued to your ideology and your roots.
Ordinary working class people in mundane jobs on piss-poor wages have often wondered what Labour actually stood for at times.
I was going to say that I left the party twice over the years but I didn't. On both occasions the party left me.

Re: Confession
Well said Hinch. The biggest regret I have is that I stayed in the LP for far too long, though until certain people arrived in Rochdale, I always had a good time in the LP and it was a good vibrant radical local LP.
I can and do still work for certain candidates in elections who I personally like, and can and still do support political campaigns and other campaigns I agree with. In fact I am more free than ever not to be stuck merely to supporting or not opposing the official party line.

There's a group called TUSC -Trade Union Socialist Coalition which MIGHT well become a good alternative to vote for. Trouble always is you might let in the Tories or Lib Dems, but at least they may stand for and against what you believe in or don't believe in. They do have a website.

The British Afternoontea Party
First we need a truck-load of money. Which one of you is hiding the 'truck'? Then we need some blatantly obscure policies that promise jam today and all next week. Which of you is good at jam-making? And then we need an expenses account upon which we can all draw oddles of cash for our moats and duck ponds. Which of you is a good book-keeper - er - scrub that - don't want tooo much honesty come to think of it.
A NEW POLITICAL PARTY - ARE YOU ALL MAD!!!!!!
