He want's to die - why give in to his wishes. The sentence is to deprive him of his liberty. He does not have the liberty to die at his own request.

If the law doesn't allow ordinary, decent, terminally ill people the dignity of an assisted death then why on earth should we expect Special Hospital staff to stand round in contravention of their Code of Professional Conduct and let this sod make a quick, sharp exit?

No. They should keep reviving him forever. That's what I call a life sentence.

It's an awful thing to say and even though we are all paying a fortune to keep him alive, he should not be allowed to die.

The point about hospital staff is one I regret I had overlooked. Of course noone could expect them to do otherwise.

Noted Miz Ratchett!
The days of using medical discretion in these matters is long gone. Regrettably.

The Professional Code does allow for staff not to 'actively rescuscitate' if clinicians have previously decided that such a course of action could lead to an undignified or traumatic death. The medical principal being ' do no harm.'
