Crimble Mill
Anyone know what's happening at Crimble Mill?
There's been a lot of noise since Thursday, mainly heavy machinery, over the distance it sounds a bit like a bulldozer or something similar.
The noise has been happening late at night, starting just before 11 p.m. Strong smell of fumes too, possibly diesel and smoke.
Doesn't make sense that (what sounds like) major work would be taking place late at night over a weekend.

Did you try walking down to see what was going on?

No... it's too far away from where I am to get to easily late at night.
Gives you a clue how loud the noise has been though.

Sorry, I assumed you lived near to it. Working in the dark does sound a bit dodgy doesn't it.

Just spoke to my friend who lives on Crimble Hall Farm and even she didn't know what it was all about. She simply said "no news is good news" but it did wake them all up.

Thanks for that update, Mulldog. Makes me feel a lot better to learn that other people experienced it too.
I've reported it this morning to local Cllr Peter Rush and RMBC. I'll let the forum know if we manage to unearth what it was.

Yes, it all appears very secret and hush hush. Surely not aliens ?

Re: Crimble Mill
*gulp*
If it's something legit, like a farmer getting a crop in, or something like that than I wouldn't see it as a problem if it was seasonal etc. and I believe most people would feel the same.
The lateness of the hour set me on edge though. Why would anyone suddenly start carrying out noisy and disturbing work at that time? They may have thought (or hoped) that the mill is isolated enough it wouldn't disturb anyone but they were wrong.

Sounds very iffy to me. Has anyone contacted the Old Bill? They might have a take on it.

Re: Crimble Mill
Mystery solved.
The noise was not coming from the mill itself. Work was taking place in the fields surrounding the mill in an attempt to get finished whilst the weather was good and they worked into the night. The diesel smell must have been the machines being used. Just goes to show how far sound carries at night when everything else is still.
Thanks to Cllr Peter Rush for getting back to me so speedily.

Crimble Mill
If you look down from the bedrooms you can see the rolls of hay waiting for collection, at least you could yesterday, they may be gone by now. It's been a regular event here for years, usually it's silage but this year it's hay.
You will know when they are muck spreading.

Unfortunately we do not have the joy of those views Past It due to the trees.

And you all thought - Go to the countryside for peace and quiet. Oh NO. Tis not so. Especially at harvesting time. One of those 'downsides' you have to have experienced before you realise - all is not always as it seems.
