An MEN view of Rochdale
If you want to see how house builders view Rochdale, the Whipp and Bourne site in Castleton, have a look at the supplement in yesterday’s Manchester Evening News.
Among the gems are:-
“Famous people born and ‘bread’ in Rochdale." Yes wait for it- Cyril Smith.”
Also claims that John Peel, the BBC one I think, was also born in Rochdale, he was born on the Wirral.
It is also selective on schools in the area missing the nearest primary and upper schools out altogether.
Talk about Billy’s weekly liar, good job it was free in Victoria Station.

Re: An MEN view of Rochdale
There's a better one in RAP that I was reading yesterday. I will start a thread on it later.
Peel worked briefly at Townhead Mill. That is his only Rochdale connection.

Re: An MEN view of Rochdale
Mind you, what do you expect from the MEN group? No office in the town and working from an 'integrated newsroom' miles away.
Their reporters try their best and I do like Simon and Chris; the guys who cover a lot of local news.
The Ob was never a good paper. Far too partisan in its political view and quality of writing very poor and unimaginative years ago plus it was what they DIDN'T report that counted; The Smith Scandal, the indentured Filipino labour at Alderglen being two cases in point.
The modern-day RMBC would have had no problem with the old, Rochdale-based Observer and the tradition continues to this day.
