Todmorden flash floods amid torrential rain

Flooding in Todmorden.  River levels in Todmorden rose rapidly, the Environment Agency said

Several properties in Todmorden, West Yorkshire, have been hit by flash floods.

A flood alert for the River Calder and its tributaries from Todmorden to Brighouse was issued by the Environment Agency at about 17:45 BST.

River levels had risen rapidly during what residents described as a "torrential" downpour, the Environment Agency said.

The fire brigade received calls from at least 19 flooded properties.

Fire crews are pumping out some of the properties.

Flood warning sirens were sounded as a precautionary measure in Todmorden and nearby Walsden.

While river levels have peaked, further rain is expected later.

The Environment Agency said river levels in the area would be monitored all night.

West Yorkshire Police asked people to avoid areas in Todmorden which were badly affected.

Waves caused by vehicles being driven through water could cause damage to houses, police added.

Have you been affected by floods?

If memory serves me well parts of Tod have always flooded in torrential downpours? You can't get a gallon in a pint pot. Waders - that's the answer.Surprised
