Have to admit, I don't understand the negative comments on here and elsewhere on this subject. A new, quality business offering something different in our piss-poor town centre. You'd think people would be jumping for joy but it seems that narrow minded politics is rearing its ugly head yet again.

Commending not knocking it Hinch. Just hope many more follow suit soon and push aside the junk shops. Green shoots and all that.

Re: New Deli to open on The Walk
As things improve then perhaps Mulldog but I have to say that things were in dire straits long before this last particular recession (pre 2008) and without some very real efforts both by local and central governments and the local populace themselves nothing, and I repeat nothing substantial will be achieved in the direction of resurrecting the town to that of its long past status. (Which is not to say it didn't always have its downsides).
The Northern regions (amongst others) need 'work' whether commercial, agricultural, industrial or technical to instill some 'local pride' back into the structures. Contrary to popular belief it's a good job and a reasonable pay-packet to go with it that gives the individual the 'heart' to progress. Such hasn't been Rochdale's lot for many a decade.

Typical of the poor political scene in Rochdale Hinch. Anyone trying to do anything better in this town there are always knockers. It can happen in any place but Rochdale intends to be the worse for some reason. I just think that has always held Rochdale back in the last 20 years or so. Though this can be debated.

Debate the politics by all means. But - Politicians are not 'Gods' or miracle workers. A good politician would be one who 'always' speaks up for the town in good or bad times and puts the town and its people first. They can only work with whatever it is that's available at the time and if the regions are being ignored in favour of other more profitable areas then their job is no better than useless.
It will be the 'economics' of the town that will bring it back to life. As long as these lag lamentably behind other areas very little will be accomplished. Worthwhile work brings self-worth which breeds community which produces cohesion which accomplishes what everyone wants - a contented, healthy society. It's that feel-better factor. It's not rocket science
