How tragic that this young woman has had her life cut short before it had barely begun, my heart goes out to the family.

Whatever the explanation of why the driver was drunk and driving the wrong way down the motorway, the penalties for killing someone with a car are too light. At the very very least a driver who does something like this should never ever drive a vehicle of any kind again, but as things stand, they do.

I so very much agree such a tragedy of a young life lost heartfelt sympathy to her family

A tragedy, for an innocent person to be killed.
The sentence for causing death by dangerous driving should include their driving license being permanently cancelled.
At the moment, disqualification from driving in such cases is mandatory for two years, with penalty points on the driving license.
Whatever prison sentence is debatable, but, to allow a killer driver back on the roads again, what reasonable argument could there be for that?

To be quite frank , that penalty on the offenders driving licence is quite paltry.
Should be banned for life like you say.
Personally the convicted should be locked up for a very very long time,.

UK law seems to have lost it's way, and that's had a bad effect on society. Whatever legal arguments are made behind the scenes do not take some basic principles properly into account. The law should reflect that actions and events have consequences, often permanent consequences. The permanent loss of a driving license for killing with a car should be automatic, whatever troubled background and mitigating circumstances the driver may present.
There is a lot of financial crime and corruption needs sorting out, but it's also fairly obvious that crimes of violence against the person should be dealt with more firmly. Maybe our prisons have too many people locked up for 'technical' crimes. Should anyone ever go to prison for not paying a TV license? No, but they do.

I know what you mean by licence dodgers getting put behind bars. Personally I think the TV licence should be scrapped considering we have access to so many forms of entertainment media.
