Halloween, celebration of what exactly?

The public mood seems rather macabre, halloween gets more ghoulish each year. It has it's roots in the ancient British custom of 'mischief night'. It crossed the atlantic to the USA with immigrants, where it became 'trick or treat', commercialised, and returned in changed form to Britain.

Many British parents were never comfortable with it, but with commercial pressure and pester power, it became the thing to do. It continues to develop, with ever weirder costumes, parties and activities.

Costumes available this year include ebola related items, zombie and mental patient outfits, gas masks and chains, walking dead kits, Isis fighter costumes, sexy halloween witch outfits, car crash victim outfits, is it all getting too seriously wierd?

If it becomes a 'public nuisance' then it will eventually become unacceptable - in time.

Some religious types think it encourages the dark side but its just a bit of fun, I guess.

Sick to death of the associated fireworks myself- well, more so our animals.
