Lord Baron John Sewel
The sad depravity and hypocricy of the elderly Lord Baron John Sewell raises some questions. Quite a lot of them. Anyone got any answers?
One view is that he has done nothing wrong, if a man wishes to use prostitutes, nothing illegal or unusual about that. If he wishes to snort a substance which may or may not be cocaine, that's a widespread habit, generally tolerated.
Another view is that so many of the pillars of the British establishment have collapsed recently, those who might wish to believe in and uphold 'British values' might think that the British establishment is a crumbling, rotten, hypocritical and vacuous facade, not worth bothering with and certainly not worth paying for.
Will Lord Sewel resign from the House of Lords? Dosn't look like it. Apparently the H.O.L. doesn't have any rule against bringing the house into disrepute. It isn't to his advantage to resign, he can just carry on taking the money to pay for his hobbies and interests.
Perhaps some sort of compromise can be arrived at, whereby members of the House of Lords are asked to reduce the amount of champagne they use to rinse their dentures.

Pig-troughing, hypocritical, selfish, toady sycophant. I think that about weighs it up.
Time to abolish the House of Lords and replace it with a Senate whereby ONLY the premises are public funded and the Senators are volunteers using their ill-gotten gains from business and inheritance to afford themselves the kudos of being in a Second House and able to question and amend the bills coming from the The Commons.
I am all for scrutiny against knee-jerk stupidity and self-aggrandisement and would therefore keep a Second House as a stop gap fielder.

In his resignation from the house of lords, baron Sewell apologises for the pain and embarrasment he has caused. A rather longer list of negative emotions, reactions and consequences could have been given. Perhaps he should have used some smileys.

He's not sorry for anything - other than getting caught.
His contempt for the country, its people and the standards we are all trying to maintain is palpable by his observable actions and audible comments - as is taking monies he never properly earned. As I said a pig-trougher. Good riddance.
