It's that man again! There appears to be some financial disclarity and untransparency involved.

Not sure of the image- but I can only assume its Roger Ellis? Sat behind a desk.
Shame its not Roger Ellis sat behind a Police Interview desk answering questions about his role in the two child abuse cases.

Will posters please take care in their use of language when accusing people of "running off with the money". We know what you mean, but...
Re: Rochdale In The News Again
Apparently Rochdale featured on World At One yesterday and today. The subject? The blight brought by the drugs trade to the town, something many people have been complaining about for years.
I wonder what the positive spin brigade will make of this one?

They will say its no worse than some other towns or that we have a magnificent town hall or accuse you of negativity for mentioning the subject.

Drug dealers set dogs on the residents of Rochdale, and people live in fear. Local councillors tell residents, if you don't like it, move out, and it's just getting worse, according to the 'World at One'.

About twenty six minutes into the programme.
Sounds like crap. Deep and hopeless.

Re: Rochdale In The News Again
Who were these wonderful, brave councillors who are advising people to move out? Why are they not dealing with the issues rather than waving the white flag?
If our councillors hAd given up, there's little hope for the rest of us.

Re: Rochdale In The News Again
When people live in difficult and threatening situations, as described in the world at one report, and are seen by drug dealers as hampering their operations, it is understandable someone who cares about people would advise them to move house.
Over the years, police and housing associations have tried different policies to mitigate the effects of the drug trade, putting known addicts and users into one area has been tried, dispersing them into different areas has been tried, and other arrangements have been tried. Nothing by way of shuffling people about seems to prove helpful really.

Well I listened to the section 'in question,' which heavily focused on the words of our local chap Shahid Mohammed - the same person who only last month had a very well-publicised meeting with local agencies/senior figures about anti-social behaviour in the Deeplish & Milkstone Ward: - Anti-social problems around Bridlington Square - Rochdale Online
http://www.rochdaleonline.co.uk/news-features/2/news-headlines/84715/antisocial-problems-around-bridlington-square
It might be useful for one of those other officials, shown present in the feature above, to 'personally' interview the same resident who claimed a councillor said he should just move out, etcetera, in order to counteract tolerating a drug problem - so the councillor(s) can be dismissed from office and political party.
Shahid Mohammed is well-known for his persistent attempts, over years, to ' persuade ' the council to install alleygates in this neighbourhood - an expensive provision that residents in so many locations in the borough would prefer for security/privacy, have enquired about, asked for and duly been declined ...
Shahid's no stranger to the media ... Play area sign unveiling marks ‘hard work’ : http://www.rochdaleonline.co.uk/news-features/article/49898/play-area-sign-unveiling-marks-hard-work.
It's disappointing to again hear some Ward/business residents' "take" on who they consider is responsible for so many environmental conditions - even like persistent residential street litter

Civil claim by Smith's abuse victims
Lawyers acting on behalf of abuse victims of the late Cyril Smith have formally started a civil action against Rochdale council .
Legal documents setting out the case against the authority have now been served. Six victims are involved in the claim – which centres around the disgraced late MP’s abuse of boys at the old Cambridge House hostel in the 1960’s.
Solicitors claim the authority didn’t do enough to protect victims.
A spokesperson for the legal firm Pannone confirmed six victims are being represented and that proceedings are underway.

Re: Rochdale In The News Again
This bastard destroyed lives. Many of his victims are old men now with ongoing health and psychological issues. I really hope they get justice. Their claims have been rubbished for years by Smith's political fan club; many of whom were senior local worthies. They really do deserve to be believed and receive apologies from the Smith-worshippers.

I cant see any chance of an apology from the people who protect Paedo Smth,
To this day people still defend him,.

Re: Rochdale In The News Again
No doubt when some of the victims get recognition by the court, some talking head from the council will give a perfunctionary and totally meaningless apology, coupled with assurances that 'lessons will be learned'.
As for Smith's former colleagues, acolytes and toadies, I doubt if any will open their mouths. Some still subscribe to the conspiracy theories and blame the victims it seems.
Again, I would like to see a real effort made to detect those who actively colluded with him. In no way can I accept that he carried out his sordid activities, unaided and undiscovered for so many years, but I get the feeling that many prefer to let sleeping dogs lie.

Sex work is what the economists and politicians call a service industry. Our economy is now based on service industries.

We get f***ed over by bankers and politicians all the time. Are they sex workers too?

Re: Rochdale In The News Again
Screwing people is a very satisfactory sexual act - - er - - or at least I thought it was. It therefore stands to reason that bankers and politicians who are the type who crave and lust after power would find 'screwing' part and parcel of their everyday lives. I find nothing surprising or unreasonable regarding that and would have expected the rest of us to have been aware of such facts and forewarned as to the outcome of dealing with such 'undesirables'. The question need not have been raised in the first place other than in ignorance of the 'real world' -don't you think?

"a man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder"
http://www.rochdaleonline.co.uk/news-features/2/news-headlines/87037/man-arrested-on-suspicion-of-attempted-murder-of-sex-worker
From the description of the crime, how low can someone get? For whatever reason this man's mind must be in a bad way. Well done 'the dibble' for bringing him in.

Re: Rochdale In The News Again
I was interested to see that from the very beginning, the suspect was described as 'white' unlike other cases where the colour of the person the Dibble were looking for was omitted. Is this a change of policy? If so, it is a welcome one if it applies to all suspects as it is surely a valuable piece of information in identification.

Presumably the ministry of propaganda thought that withholding such information would help race relations?

The rest of the country seems to be catching up with similar scandals, but Rochdale is usually a bit ahead with problems. Central government could usefully study events in Rochdale to predict generally what's going to go wrong next. Nobody bothers really though, do they.
