Failure of energy policy Empty Failure of energy policy

Throw another chair leg on the fire, mother.

The news is that everyone will have to pay ever higher and higher prices for gas and electric for the forseeable future, and that a lot of people won't be able to afford it.

Behind all the hoo-ha we have heard for many a year about closing coal mines, investing in renewables, diverse energy policy, shale gas, windmills, energy efficiency and carbon trading, it would have been more efficient to collect the hot air being spoken, as the actual energy policy behind it was, a failure. Smile

I can't believe that Blair and Brown had 13 years to do something about this and authorised the building of a few wind turbines. They owe us big style. Unfortunately both of them will be able to afford to heat their houses as much as they like, unlike many in the years to come, thanks to their unbelievable lack of action

There has been a complete lack of a cogent policy on energy since the 1960s. The CND Movement made ample sure that the nuclear option was not politicaly acceptable and governments ever since have followed the line 'Don't talk about nuclear' - ergo - insufficient energy from renewables and horror stories regarding global warming and fossil fuels and what have you now got - zilch er change that to - minus zilch.
France meanwhile took the only possible route to ensure the lights stayed on and continued with its nuclear programme. Don't blame 13 years, blame rightly 50 years Dalelad. No-one comes out of this smelling like roses. Pillocks the lot of them. Evil or Very Mad

Getting the forward planning for energy right is such a basic government responsibility to fail at.

Can and should the public refuse to pay these escalating energy bills, and force the government to rethink how much mickey can be extracted from the public before the mickey wells run dry?
