That bloody blue plaque

And therein lies the problem of 'immortalising' individuals of our species either in plaque form or statue.
The 'great and the good' are very, very rarely ever so. All 'man' has, by nature, flaws that others would decry as bad or unsocial able or downright perverted and thus can never aspire to the heights of sainthood. I don't know of any - and I would include in that Nelson Mandela - who could ever be eulogised to the extent of the Blue Plaque status or statues. Most all have two sides and like Cyril Smith are generally 'outed' eventually. I prefer 'history' to make the distinctions and am happy with the general results.
