New Street Lights
I really do like these new street lights the glow is much better than the old (yellow) ones and is much safer for anyone out & about in the dark, I must also give credit to the workers they have done a marvellous job
The only problem I have is- that I know these new lights are solar powered but does that mean they should be on 24 hours continuous just seems such a waste and once they are all finished will the borough be lite up forever 24 / 7

Unfortunately they also give more light pollution - which is bad news for astronomers.

Low pressure sodium lights (the yellow ones) can be at a high level and still be filtered. The alternatives can't.

Are you sure they are solar powered, I do not think so?

Re: New Street Lights
Are they the street lights that have an independent light-level operated switch on the top of the lamp, to turn them on when it goes dark and off when it's bright?

They are not solar powered, but they are remotely controlled.

Re: New Street Lights
Im sure I read somewhere that the new street lights were not as bright as the old ones.
Speaking of light pollution, a lot has been said of the lights over at Kingsway Business Park are far to bright for the ajoining housing estates.

I personally think they give out a better light but one of my neighbours thinks the opposite might be an (age) eye sight thing I really don't know ?
Come and have a drive / walk up my street day or night

Kingsway Business Park Lights
I live right by the business park and the lights on the park itself aren't too bad. What are bad are the lights on the huge JD warehouse. It's like they're running their own sun down there. You can see the glow of it over the houses. You could probably see it from space!...
I understand the reason why it needs to be well lit but I think they could do with something to keep the light from spilling everywhere - maybe some lighting modiifiers to keep it a bit more directional. It's going to be a nightmare for anyone moving into the house they're building next to it.

Re: New Street Lights
We had an old light outside my front window, never a problem over the 10 year we moved in. They came along last year, pulled the old one up, put a new one in, since then it has broken several times, bulbs blown, not coming on because of the light switch, (as soon as the sun sets it is suppose to switch on and off when the sun comes up) At one point while they were up fixing it for the 4/5 time several council workers were out looking up at it, it must’ve cost a fortune so far. Because of the time changes and clouds it didn’t go off half of last week.
