Charity at home or oversea?
We have an Health Service that is badly underfunded. We are now seeing more food banks opening up for the people who need it. More homeless people in the streets. Services closing because according to local authorities and the government because of a lack of money.
So why is it the government can still find billions of pounds to help the poor countries but never appear to have the money for our own people who need it in the UK?
They can still give money to countries like India who can afford to help their own poor.
Yet can still find the money to spend on war in another country.
Do we have the money to help our own people or not in this country?
So how come they can have the funds for other countries?

Re: Charity at home or oversea?
Political foreign aid given from one government to another arguably does more harm than good.
Independent charities that give medical care and food directly to people in need do much better.
Politicians seem happy to give away other peoples' money, apparently without knowing or understanding where it goes or what it's used for.

We always should want to help those in need, but allowing that generosity to be 'scammed' is no help at all.

Deja vue eh DL?
I don't see why either charity or compassion has to stop at our own border but I certainly think it needs to be targetted where it will be most effective rather than help to fund nuclear missile programmes or end up in the bank accounts of war-lords.
And in our own country, charity should not be used to let councils and governments escape providing their own statutory duties.

Yes DL you are correct. It was just something I had seen in the media the other day about further threats of cutbacks in our own country.
So easy to forget sometimes but with this present rubbish in government they seem to forget we have our own charity cases as well. But! use the weak in the UK as an easy target for further cutbacks.
Yet keep getting away with it. Surely at some stage we have to say enough is enough.
