If I get into a taxi in Rochdale, I just assume that the driver can't get a better job because he has a criminal record.

But what about the Character References ? : -


Together with any taxi driver’s first application for a licence, RMBC clearly required two character references from people who have know the applicant for 2 or more years.


RMBC even provides (or did) the short, separate character reference proformas for the private hire or hackney carriage drivers’ first applications … for interviewees to get signed.
