An interesting item on the Today programme on R4 this morning.

All UK locomotives are to have their numbers replaced with bar codes so that spotters can just scan them in on their mobiles and an application will provide a full history of the engine including technical details, destination and even tell you if it is running on time.

I was about to write an indignant letter to The Times when I realised that it was April 1st.
