It pays to think ahead. Have booked a week in Portmeirion for Xmas next year in the wonderful White Horses cottage. It is built into the sea wall and the late Patrick McGoohan stayed in it when filming The Prisoner.

Stayed there three times now.

Well, this year I'm 'going away to Bacup for Xmas Eve and Xmas Day, returning to Stradhoughton on Boxing Day but in Jan, we are going to Portmeirion for a weekend as our friends bought us a £100 voucher.

It is a magical place where you can really unwind. Some great deals on in Jan and Feb and costs about twice the price of a Travelodge with dinner thrown in. We generally dress up for dinner. Only time my tux gets an airing these days.

You just have to watch out for those bouncing balls!
