Re: Urgent Care Centre closed
Other services have been suffering the same problems, not just at the infirmary, Oldham too.
It seems that staff have had enough pushing about and are not as helpful covering shortages - who can blame them!
The results, I would guess, services run at critical levels of staffing and the higher cost of agency staff.
I wonder what will be closing next, this reminds me very much of the A&E closure!!!

Hard to understand why they couldn't have made up the numbers using their own experienced bank staff. After all, most UCC and A and E staff are registered with the Nurse Bank and many are glad of the opportunity to earn a few extra quid.

Re: Urgent Care Centre closed
Well, if there really were genuine safety issues that couldn't be resolved at short notice, they would have had to close.
However, health and safety are often used as excuses to drive other, long standing agendas. Remember, Rochdale lost its A&E in the first place because of alleged staffing issues and their stated inability to attract sufficiently qualified consultant-grade medical staff.
There is still a national shortage of these. The work is brutal and career opportunities are not as good or as lucrative as other specialities.

Re: Urgent Care Centre closed
It was only a couple of weeks ago they were saying how bloody fantastic this service was coping !
Now they are short staffed, sorry but alarm bells are ringing once again, for gods sake stand up and speak out, where is the challenge any more at Health Overview & Scrutiny ?
The purpose of this committee is to (CHALLENGE). I haven't seen one issue regarding health being challenged and no reports in the media for a long time !
Sorry, but our Councillors on this committee are far too quiet these days !!!

Although if they didn't have enough staff to run it, due to illness, then they couldn't run it could they?
Casualties from any major accident that happened whilst it was shut wouldn't have gone there anyway.

Oh well that's ok then, maybe we don't need it anyway.................
Why were bank staff not brought in? This is the question we should be asking.
No something is afoot, the next closure perhaps?

No sorry this is not acceptable; there should be contingency plans in place to cover this sort of situation.
This is a major management failure and the person responsible should be questioned; after all they get inflated wages and are responsable for the failure of this much needed service!

A lad from the dale is competing in this year's complacency olympics. "It's all in the mental attitude. I don't bother much with steering, it will probably be all right, things just happen" he said as he was strapped to a toboggan and pushed down the slope.

'DOH!' Does the word 'Urgent' have a meaning I am unaware of? Sorry - totally and without question - unforgiveable unless of a 'major incident' taking place at or in the immediate vicinity that would have endangered life. No excuse at all.

keithatrochdale: http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/ae-staff-send-patients-gps-6734768 : -
‘ The plans are part of a raft of measures being introduced as part of the wide-reaching Healthier Together re-organisation of the region’s £6bn health network. '
A&E staff to send patients to GPs to ease pressure on emergency departments
‘ The change, which will give A&E workers the ability to book patients into their local practice that night or the following day, is expected to be in place in the central Manchester commissioning area by Easter ! It ties in with moves by health chiefs in central Manchester to extend doctors surgery opening hours to 8pm on weekdays with three hour sessions on Saturdays and Sundays.’
MRI leads the way for future regional A&E policies / diversions ?

Mojo Hill Not sure why you put my name in front of that link, but Rochdale is not part of that.

Sorry about that keithatrochdale . I thought Rochdale was part of the same ' region ' referred to for wide-ranging re-organisation of the health network with that earlier link showing a new example of change. http://www.pat.nhs.uk/Service-changes-and-developments/CurrentChanges/Healthier-Together.phpkeithatrochdale wrote: Mojo Hill Not sure why you put my name in front of that link, but Rochdale is not part of that.

Who said it was acceptable Keith? I was just responding to your sarcastic 'oh well maybe we don't need it anyway then' comment.

Surely you took that comment as 'tongue in cheek' Dalelad? Didn't you? Am I missing something here?

Re: Urgent Care Centre closed
And that was in response to my post asking exactly what could they have done if they didn't have the staff, and me pointing out that major accidents wouldn't have gone there anyway, mainly in response to the banner at the top of the screen, 'NHS warns: "Check Urgent Care Centre open before having that major accident!"
Maybe, this once, there wasn't an ulterior motive and they genuinely ran out of staff?

Best hope they don't run out of staff, or something else in the middle of your operation (should you ever require one) or anyone else's. RUN OUT OF STAFF? It's a bloody Urgent Medical Centre. How much more desperate has it to be? At the very worst scenario you would ensure somebody on site with a modicum of medical knowledge - even if you had to call in the local doctor????? I've never heard anything so ludicrous in all my life.

Think it might help everyone if there was a transparent up-date published on what services are still routinely available at Rochdale Infirmary Urgent Care Centre.
This seems to be the last publicity available: - http://www.pat.nhs.uk/Our-hospitals/Our-hospitals-Rochdale-Infirmary.php The video in the middle of the linked article mentions an Award, and images a thriving UCC environment. Since then, there's been some local publicity about a highly-specialised dementia assessment ward, I think ?
... yet, from personal experiences of taking people to other hospitals, some of the listed UCC services also 'seem' to have been moved away from Rochdale; very confusing ... What is left there ?

Run out of staff in the middle of an operation? Completely different to not starting one because of lack of staff. The former would be madness, the latter may, MAY, have happened because of illness. We don't know. There was hopefully at least a modicum of medical knowledge available at the place the casualties were diverted to.Atlas wrote:
