How was actualy 'drinking' it possible? I understood the liquid turned to a gas once it hit room temperature unless - it was somehow contained before and until it reached the stomach???

Or the Nitrogen in the glass wasnt allowed to evaporate before the poor girl drank it. As it is my understanding the Nitrogen is used to instantly chill the glass and then it is supposed to be left to evaporate before the comsumption of the drink.

There are also a couple of cocktails that use nitrous oxide. (Laughing gas.)

Asked my daughter about these drinks as l had never heard of them. She has never drank one but has seen them in clubs in Manchester. She was really shoked when l told her about that young girl,l am now safe in the knowledge that my daughter will never drink one, but what a terrible thing to have happened, its not as if we are aware of the dangers of these drinks, but have one anyway.

Well, we all know how dangerous liquid nitrogen is now. The girl who drank some is lucky to be alive. From now on anyone or any bar or business serving customers with liquid nitrogen in a drink should be charged with grievous bodily harm, manslaughter or murder, whichever fits the circumstances.

You'd have thought that serving a drink that can do this would mean the bar had broken its duty of care to its customers.

The principle is to cool the class, create a steam as the liquid evaporates in practice the drink can’t be taken until the nitrogen has fully evaporated. It would seem she was allowed to drink before this happened, that would mean she actually drank liquid nitrogen in full strength; it would have burnt her stomach to a crisp and indeed the lining all the way down. Almost like drinking pure full strength bleach, it must’ve been agony.

Why use such a dangerous chemical for anyone to drink? Tragic accident waiting to happen.

It was Oscars' wine bar in Lancaster that gave the girl liquid nitrogen to drink. She has lost her stomach and is still in hospital. It's a restaurant, apart from any other criminal charges they might face, they should lose their drinks license. Straight away. They should do that themselves without being made to. Selfish stupid and irresponsible.

Well, yes, people are silly, but that's normal. A business that serves alcoholic drinks to the public, who should be and are supposed to be relaxed and enjoying themselves, should not give anyone a glass of liquid nitrogen. If the law does not protect people from that, it's ridiculous.

Totally agree cyfrifia, using this stuff with a lack of knowledge was dispicable and certainly criminal.

Yesterday, Parliament got round to having a mutter to itself about liquid nitrogen in drinks. Amongst the hundreds of words necessary to ask and answer a simple question, these are the key sentences that mean anything from that debate.
David Morris (Morecambe and Lunesdale) (Con): I call on Health Ministers to support an outright ban on the use of liquid nitrogen as an ingredient.
Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Health (Dr Daniel Poulter): We do not yet have all the information about what happened in the bar in Lancaster, so, we need to wait for the conclusion of the investigation by the council.
